I see that a lot of people factoring cost into their decisions for housing (like the low cost triples I have been hearing so much about). I would def like to make NYU as inexpensive as possible. In the long run is it even worth rooming in a low cost traditional as opposed to an higher cost apartment style, since freshmen in traditionals are required to buy meal plans?

Whether or not you have to buy a meal plan, you're going to need to eat just as much as anyone in a traditional. Don't think you won't be spending less money on food than the people in a traditional.

Traditional low cost + meal plan = $9,000
Apartment + food = $10,000-12,000

(from what research i've done)

While I'm not 100% certain about this, I BELIEVE, living in an apartment style dorm (Third North and UHall) relieves you of a mandatory meal plan.

"...living in an apartment style dorm (Third North and UHall) relieves you of a mandatory meal plan."

yep.

So which is better, money wise? I'm really tight on money for NYU so whatever is cheaper...I'm in.

I live in UHall. You are not required to have a meal plan, but most people have one anyway.

i say go for the low cost triple
