Anyone know why this happened?

Hello all,

I received an email stating that my application to CSUS for Fall 2014 was rejected because I did not meet the requirements. Here were the requirements they listed in the email:

• Completed 60 transferable semester or 90 quarter units
• Completed the following courses with a C- or higher:
• A1. oral communication,
• A2. written communication,
• A3. critical thinking, and
• B4. math (above intermediate algebra)
• Be in good standing at the last college or university attended
• Minimum GPA of 2.0

However, I meet ALL of these requirements. I have two things that are different regarding my academic history:

1) Over a year ago, I was academically disqualified from UCSD. I was a computer science major and shouldn't have been. I have since changed to Accounting, and since returning to the CC in my hometown have received a 4.0. My overall GPA is over a 3.0 and I completed my transfer requirements a while back (I am even set to receive an AS-T at the end of this semester). So I am in good standing with the last college I have attended, which is my CC.

2) Because of this major change, I have a significant amount of units from both a 4 year (UCSD) and a CC. The majority of my units were taken at the CC, so they consider that my "home" university. Overall, I am at 170+ units, and closing in on 150 passed units.

I have scoured CSUMentor, CC, and CSU websites and have come up with no reason why I would be rejected.

I see this: Given the university’s 30-semester (45-quarter) unit residency requirement, no more than a total of 90-semester (135-quarter) units may be transferred into the university from all sources.

But I am having trouble understanding if that means that having over that number of units means I am absolutely not allowed in the CSU, or that they will only transfer over a certain number of my units.

I even spoke with a CSU transfer advisor at the beginning of the year and he told me I would be fine after looking at my transcripts and describing the situation. None of the numerous counselors I've met with have made any mention of any issues. I know my situation is a little out of the ordinary, but I'd think that someone would have said something to me along the way if there was going to be an issue like this.

Can somebody please either tell me I really am screwed, or is this a hiccup in the system on the CSU's side? I've been going back and forth between admissions and counseling because one keeps telling me to talk to the other. The lady in the admissions office looked at my transcripts, said, "your account looks to be in order. I'm not sure why you would have received that email" but was unable to do anything further for me. I am really at a loss. I have my heart set on finishing my degree, and it would be absolutely terrible for everything to end here.

You’ve exceeded the amount of units allowed, you are considered to be in senior standing therefore they are claiming you are not meeting the junior standing requirement.

Check which, if any CSU’s allow senior standing transfers, as well as any other schools you think might be acceptable to you as a transfer student in senior standing.

Now I’m sad. :frowning: So CSUs won’t accept senior transfers at all?

I honestly don’t know that every single one of them won’t accept senior transfers, which is why I said to go to each CSU campus website and see individually, but most if not all will not accept a senior transfer.

Check with private schools private schools like CLU (which is still accepting applications) and see if any of them will accept a senior transfer.

Look into Privates that don’t care about units.

e.g. Chapman University

"A maximum of 70 semester credits of community college credit will be applied toward the bachelor’s degree.

No limit is placed on the number of transferable credits from regionally accredited four-year colleges or universities. A student, however, must meet all the credit, grade, and residence requirements as stated in the Undergraduate Degree Requirements section of the current Chapman University catalog"

From my CC I could knock out IEGETC + 27 lower division core business classes. That means I would only have to take 44 units to graduate

<a href=“Page Not Found | Chapman University”>http://www.chapman.edu/business/_files/advising/program-requirements/general-track-program-requirements.pdf

Thank you to both of you! I will keep looking into these schools. If all else fails, I can go back to UCSD and finish out my degree. I think I even qualify for financial aid still, so that may have to be what I do. Thanks again for your help.
