Hello everyone! I am at a crossroads of sorts with my major of choice. I am currently in my first semester of nursing school at California State University, Long Beach and I am desperately looking for an alternative career path. I went into nursing very naive thinking my fears would subside, but I have yet to see myself working in any type/area of nursing and finding happiness. I have been looking at alternative career options outside of healthcare because I feel that such an area would, while still presenting its own challenges, not create this sense of anxiety that a mistake will kill someone or negatively affect their quality of life in some way.
My school offers a Business Administration BA with an option in Operations and Supply Chain Management. From what I have read up on it so far, the field is quite in demand due to a lack of qualified applicants.
I am in the Southern California area. Orange County, specifically. I am trying to determine if this field is a viable option to pursue in regards to job prospects and stability following completion of the degree. Those of you who work in the field and those of you in the field from my area, what has been your experience with finding work and is it a field that you enjoy? I am very analytical and could see myself doing well in this field, but I really need to determine if its worth making such a drastic change in studies.
If I do decide to pursue this route, what could I do during undergrad to beef up my resume and increase my marketability? I am a non-traditional student in that I am 25 and I need to work in order to provide for myself. If I do make the switch, I would like to find some sort of job that I could work that would provide transferable skills to the field if at all possible. Any input is seriously very much appreciated.
