Well... I'm one of those lucky few that got rejected from UCD and into UCSB.

The thing is, I'm FAR from being a "party freak" and I don't drink or plan to drink too much in college. I've heard ALL about UCSB (being ranked number 2 in playboy's top 10 party schools) and to be truly honest, I'm getting kind of nervous.

I've heard about "Substance-free" dorms but I don't know too much about them. Anyone know more about UCSB and the situation there?

Also, ALL of my friends are going to UCD and UCI. I think I'm the only one in my school thats going to UCSB.

God I fell like I'm the only one in this situation. Anyone in the same boat as me?

I still have other decisions pending, but I had the same concerns as you. From what I've gathered, the predominate culture is pretty lame and vapid, but there are some gems to be found.

Lol. I'm actually from Texas and NOBODY I know who goes to UT parties like crazy. Yes, there are parties. Yes, there is drinking. But no, I have not heard of any extremely wild and out of control parties. I think the only reason why they were the number one party school was because they were BCS champs in 06.

Funny. I didn't even apply there. The 10% rule sucks and nobody wants to go to college with 100 of the same people from high school.

i'm going to UCSB and i've never been to any parties in high school.

if you don't want to party, it doesn't matter what school you're going to go to, cause you're not going to party. if you want to party, you will regardless of the school you go to. don't worry about whether the school is a party school or not.

yeah, i was wondering the same thing. I'm not really a partier either. I'm in at UCSB (I'm out of state...maryland) but I've heard only from my safeties thus far, so I'm not sure if I'm going to UCSB. But honestly, you just have to know where to look. And those of us that aren't huge drinkers, I think we've gotten pretty good at finding eachother. so good luck!

Hah! I didn't mean it like that. I was referencing that Texas is a big giant state without much going on with Austin as it's magnet for freaks, liberalism and generally interesting people.

UCSB will be a giant sea of partiers, have no delusions, but there will be a magnet there somewhere as well...

you know you can go to a party and not drink, people won't hold you down and make you chug a beer. If you would rather sit in your dorm and miss the social aspect of college then to be frank, thats lame. its one thing to abuse alcohol and drugs its another thing to be social and willing to have fun in a social atmosphere, every college will have people like you who do not drink so just find those people if its that big of a deal

I would recommend not judging those who party unless you try it. I used to be the way you were, but then I decided to try "partying" and found that it was fun, in moderation. You don't have to be a raging alcoholic binge drinker who runs around naked in his fraternity to have fun.

I may be going to UCSB and I don't party.. I haven't decided yet if I want to go there. There's bound to be some people like yourself as it's a large college.. The social aspect might be good for me as well. Hm.

I know this doesn't help, but you are my exact opposite. If I go to UCSB, it will be BECAUSE of the parties! lol :) may I please ask why you don't like parties? just wondering
