So ummm does anybody have any idea what it means if my status thing still says currently reviewing? I thought everyone was supposed to hear back tonight.

i’m a first generation asian, a minority ut certainly does NOT want at this point. lol. i got me a nice chip on my shoulder now.

yeah there is really no rhyme or reason to the decisions they make im pretty upset

i feel ya soanxious, i could go ■■■■■ on boards about this for a while but i’ll spare the whining lol. theres always other universities.

that seriously sounds like a mistake, are you an considered an international student or something? Does UT have an appeals process?

haha no i’m an instate student. i dont think ut does? i might be wrong though.

damn josh i feel bad for u bro. first gen asian as well… but top 28% 33 on act 4’s on ap tests. got into bschool.

I think rank is the deciding factor? D is 35ACT, 2210 SAT(submitted both) 3.87, Lots of honors and APs, National Commended, Natl Hispanic, Yrbook Chief Editor, Lots of Service Hours 300? Study Abroad… she was given a full scholarship to Fordham and A&M and 1/2 to Rhodes and we are waiting to hear from her reaches. UT was the first. She applied to Biology. She goes to a tough private school and is maybe top 1/4? She belongs at a smaller school anyway - so we are not bothered by their decision. I hope they took an OOS candidate instead. UT needs to introduce Austin and Texans to those from other parts and UT students need to be exposed to non-Texans!

I was put on the wait list.

Can someone please tell me the chances of still getting in?? I need to know.

My son just called and said he knows of 7 kids who got the word overnight. I don’t know exact stats but all were non top 10. They all attend a comptitive suburban hs.

Spartan5 were you one of the ones who heard? My spartan says facebook is alive with results! If you haven’t heard, GOOD LUCK!

After looking at who has been CAPed, I feel so blessed to have been invited to the wait list group.

My hope is that people who have been accepted and have decided NOT to go to UT, will make that fact known so spaces will open up quickly. There are surely plenty of people on the waitlist who TRULY want to go to UT (like me).

I’m sorry, the top 10% rule is crap and everyone (accepted or not) knows it.

Yes, I’m glad they’re at least tightening up on the rule next year. I don’t know how they evaluated my OOS son, since his HS doesn’t even rank (a lot of schools in our area don’t).

I was also put on the waitlist… does anyone know last years waitlist stats?

Yeah, I was top 17% when I applied, now top 12% AND I’m from Out of State. I am not going for sports or anything, and I was accepted into the regular Business program. I have no idea how I got in.
I had 2110 SAT, 31 Composite ACT. I’ve got family that went to UT, but I am still in complete shock, it seems like there are a lot of people with better stats on here that didn’t make it in, I guess I must have written a great essay…
Good luck to everyone that got wait listed, you will all be fine.

After going through what most of you are going through right now here are some things to consider:

1.) Did you apply for a competitive college (e.g. Business, Engineering, Communication etc.)? If so, it could be that you are still under review or it could be that a decsion has been made but UT has not updated its info. online.

My friend got into the business school but his info. wasn’t updated untill the summer (he applied for the Fall 2008). UT is slow when it comes to updating info for admission.

2.) Those of you that are not in the top 10% of your class (soon to become top 8%) you will probably not get in and if you are a Texas resident you will receive the CAP Program. If any of you want more info. on this just let me know.

My best advice is to call UT and keep calling them. From what I know doing this apparently gets UT to update your info. ASAP so you would stop calling them, dunno if this true or not but seemed to work for a few people I know.

UT for some reason loves to grab students that are OOS from up north. This girl I know was from Montana and she was top 20% for her class and got into the business school. Guess there aren’t too many UT kids from Montana! :)

Good Luck to everyone, and BTW if you DON’T get into UT its not the end of the world. Some of my friends who were CAPed said not attending UT was the best decsion they made in their lives.

UT is also know for having a high percentage when it comes to returning students, meaning that something like 50%+ students don’t come back to UT after there Freshman year (got this info. from my advisor).

Thing is, I’m not from a small state that UT wants, I am from California, I’m sure that they see tons of CA kids…

yea alot of the kids who are top 10 flunk out, after like the 1st year, i may just apply as a transfer next year if my gpa is good enough at another university

Yea! My daughter just got accepted! She is OOS. Her stats weren’t nearly as good as most on the forum. Her EC angle was unique and I have always believed that tests and grades are not everything in high school life. When we visited Texas the counselors echoed that as well. I am relieved that I’m not eating crow now because of that belief.

Good luck to all who are still waiting!

Congrats, curlytoons!! It’s exciting to see other OOS kids getting in.
