Just called and they haven’t processed my son’s SAT scores for GPA verification. They say it takes 6-8 weeks. The woman did say sending a copy from College Board’s website was ok (he’s homeschooled, so no GPA verification from school), but I confess I’m nervous. The Cal Grant is critical to my son attending a California school.
If your income/assets are below the 2015-2016 ceiling for your family size and you know your son will have the GPA equivalent with the SAT scores, I wouldn’t be too concerned. The important thing is getting all documents in before March 2nd (because of this deadline you may not find out your status until after anyway). CSAC is pretty slow in getting notices out to students. Make sure your son monitors his email address and also his Webgrants account if he hasn’t created one yet.
Thanks, kgos16. Yes, we are a family of 5 with income of 70K last year, so definitely qualify for Cal Grant and a little Pell. My son’s GPA is fine, too. Ok, I’ll have him keep an eye out.
I don’t think he created a Webgrant account. How do you do that?
Head here: https://mygrantinfo.csac.ca.gov/
It is very simple and easy to create an account. This will help your son keep track of any correspondence between his account and CSAC, as well as any documents he might need to turn in along the way.
I received my approval today, I was awarded Cal Grant B although I qualified for A as well.
Wow, when did you send in GPA verification?
I assume my GPA verification was retrieved straight from my school, considering my cal-grant GPA is listed on my transcript.
just an fyi, i needed to have my child’s gpa sent ‘manually’. I filled out the form, took it to
the high school with a stamped envelope so they could write in their part and mail
it in. it showed up on the webgrant portal within a week. We aren’t eleigible for cal
grant but since I don’t know if applying for that is required for ‘blue and gold’ or ‘middle
class scholarship’, I submitted the info anyway.
