Same for Spring.

That’s a lot of loans, but I’m still very satisfied. I’m still waiting to hear back from scholarships, so hopefully that will take care of some of the loans. Hook 'em Horns!

I got some loans but isnt that pretty much worthless cause we have to pay back with interest anyways? My Efc was above average and we got a pretty big loan deal

Sorry if this is a really stupid question, but how are you awarded grants? I’m looking at my financial aid offer page online, and I’ve only been given loans, and no grants.

Oh, and I’m aware that grants are only for students whose families’ financial needs qualify, and I’m pretty sure mine should because we have a fairly low income

Also, if I’ve already been offered a financial aid on the CA$H page, does that mean that is their final offer and that I have no chance at getting any more grants or scholarships?

@OoovooO: I think that’s it for grants (though as it says on the CASH system, these are only tentative offers anyway b/c of the pending changes to the Texas education budget), but after may 1st once everyone has accepted or declined their offers of admission, the many kids who got scholarships and turned down UT to go to a fancy shmancy private school will void their aid and it will be redistributed to “other deserving kids”, as UT worded it on one of my scholarships.

Of course, I’d love to be one of those fancy shmancy kids, but since its lookin like UT is my best bet, I wouldn’t mind some dough. lolz

yeah I was happy with it:) The reason I probably got this much though is because I have an EFC of 0 and my mom only made $20,230 last year, and she’s a single parent who is also trying to help my sister pay for her college:/

So if the ones we see online on CA$H are “tentative” offers only, when do we get our actual offer? I need to make up my college choice by May 1st, and UT’s financial offer will play a big role in which school I choose!

I’ve received far more merit aid from the private schools than the state schools. Even with the lower state tuition, it will cost less to go to a private school than UT, so far. It’s not about being fancy, the private schools just have huge endowments and can offer more aid sometimes. It’s about the final cost.

It seems like everyones financial aid offer is much better than the packages my sister username GuitarIsMySoul posted here!

@Tiger1992 - I wish I would’ve been aware of this fact and I would have applied to more private schools!

My mom, although she only made around 5,000 dollars in wages last year is going to have to put $30,000 for my sister and I in Parent Loans in her name for only THIS YEAR. (Considering she’s approved)
This is completely ridiculous. So by the time we graduate, (considering tuition doesn’t raise;)) She’ll have $120,000 in her name for us.

If I could I would put all of my finances in my name so that I can already establish the plan for after graduating, etc. I plan to major in Civil Engineering, so it’s not like I will get back the money too slowly, it’s just the principal of the matter that my mom would rather NOT put $120,000 of loans in her name as she is getting ready to retire!

This whole system is crap. My parents make around 70k and are getting a divorce now. Already payed for my brothers 4 year college and now his med school. and i get absolutely no grants and only a few federal loans.

My parents saved for a long time for my college, so that kept me from getting any grants. They will have to spend all of their savings, tho, and since I work, all of my savings were counted, too. Scholarships are not all out yet, so don’t give up! Looks like the universities are going to have to make college three years instead of four so people can go. There are jobs on campus and I plan to take some classes at CC during summer to keep costs down.

OoovooO, I wondered the same thing! I called up to the financial aid office and they told me they wouldn’t know how to change the packages until sometime in June, or July (I can’t remember what month I was told) because of all of the budget issues. So basically you just have to accept it and HOPE something comes through if you need more financial aid, but realize that if not you gotta get cash and loans. I was surprised. I’m going to UT, but I hope something changes about these 20k in loans on my financial aid package!

wow I knew UT’s aid was bad but this is pretty horrible…
got 3000 student unsubscribed loan and 9,000 parent unsubscribed loan all per semester…wasn’t expecting that

Can we expect any more grants to be offered anymore? I seriously need these loan offers to be replaced by grants…I mean, UT is offering me NOTHING other than loans
