Anyone received Financial Aid offer yet?

24K for my S. Ridiculous!!! If we had to take out that in loans he’d go to CC for 2 years.

well, my efc is 12.6k so i thought i would get some grants? i guess not

i don’t know if my efc is too high but all i got was 25k of pure loans, of which 3.5k is subsidized. I’m obviously not going to take it all (I would prefer not to take ANY of it actually, hopefully grants are on the way) but wow, this is a pretty miserly deal.

Feels like a disincentive towards planning and saving. So many “scholarships” have a need component. S isn’t even bothering if need is mentioned anywhere in the qualifications …even as the last qualifier.

20k for me x 2 (because of my twin sister) = a good ol’ 40k a year! Yayy!:)

Oh! & Both of our EFCs were around $7,200

do you find out online or via mail?

they made me to verify that im not related to anyone working there and it just went back to what it was before.

also i had a bar that has been cleared but however the status check page still shows that i have a bar and need to contact the OFAS about it?

@mredwinner
You find out online. I have no idea what the verification process that you are talking about is. This didn’t happen to me. These are the steps I followed to check my financial aid status/package:

 1. Go to [Home | The University of Texas at Austin](http://www.utexas.edu)
 2. Click on UT Direct on the top toolbar
 3. Log in with your UT EID & Password
 4. On the left toolbar you will see options and one of them will be “Financial Aid Status”, Click It.
 5. It leads you to a “What Do I Need to Complete?” Page, Under “Financial Aid Notification” Click “Activate My Electronic Financial Aid Notification”
 6. Then it will have an “Important Information from the University” and some continue buttons, just continue to read the pages and keep click the button until you see your package come up:)

@ganderscheer

thank you! i dont have “Activate My Electronic Financial Aid Notification” option yet so i guess my package isnt ready yet!

but thanks a lot anyway!

@mredwinner

No problemo! You can also check another view of it if after you do step 4 & click your “Financial Aid Status”, on the side there will be another 2 options saying: “My Financial Aid” & “My History”
If you select the “My History” item you just click the link available titled: “View My Financial Aid at UT Austin” and then a pop-up comes up with your totals from the first steps I listed above!:)

Make sure to post back on what your package looks like.

All I got was:
University Tuition Grant -Freshman only 471.00
Federal Direct Subsidized Loan* 1,750.00
Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan* 1,000.00
Federal Direct Parent Loan for Undergrad Students* 9,089.00
Award Total $ 12,310.00

:/

$471? What an odd figure.

@Chemistry What was your expected family contribution on your FAFSA? I guess it would have to be lower than mine because you actually got a VERY small grant from UT.

We were quite happy with our FA package. A little background information…we have two sons in college who we pay our EFC for both of them (Each EFC is different, based on each child.) They go to State University Branches so tuition is not a killer and they have small jobs and we pay room and board. They both should be out by now, but seem to be dragging this process on. We also have two small children and an elderly parent that rely on us for support. So although we support ourselves well…to say we try to squeeze blood out of the rock most months is an understatement…haha. Anyway our EFC for our D was $500, and this was the package offered:

Federal Perkins Loan $ 2,000.00
Federal Direct Subsidized Loan $ 3,500.00
Total Loans: $ 5,500.00

Grants/Scholarships

President’s Achievement Scholarship - Tier 1 $ 5,000.00
Federal Pell Grant $ 5,100.00
UT Freshman Grant $ 7,100.00
Total Grants/Scholarships $ 17,200.00

We will more than likely lose the Pell and of course the Freshman Grant when Son 1 graduates in Spring 2012. But it eases the pain for now. She has pretty high Stats and is in an Honors Program so maybe that helped with the Freshman Grant and PAS??

I’m not quite happy with my package, even though it seems better than those that some others have gotten.

Grants and Scholarships:

President’s Achievement Scholarship - Tier 1 - $5000
Federal Pell Grant - $5550
UT Freshman Grant - $7100

Loans:

Federal Perkins Loan - $2000
Federal Direct Subsidized Loan - $3500
Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan - $1984

That leaves me with $17650 in grants and scholarships and $7484 in loans offered. I have a $4000 outside scholarship that will leave me with only $3484 in loans, but it’s still a bit much for me. My EFC was 0, my M is in CC and I’m the oldest of 6 with a possible 7th on the way. I just hope I don’t have to use those loans, 'cause I’m getting nothing from my parents. I don’t even know how I will pay for the next 3 years.

S got his estimated package today. EFC is 0 and he is in-state.

Federal Pell Grant $5500
Partial Tuition Grant $1288
University Tuition Grant -Freshman only $1550
James M. Rockwell and Sarah Wade Scholarship $5000
Federal Perkins Loan $2000
Federal Direct Subsidized Loan $3500
Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan $2000
Federal Direct Parent Loan for Undergrad Students $4246

^That seems like an absurd amount of loans (especially that parent loan) for an EFC of 0.

Don’t forget UT bases FA off cost of attendance. They allow $1200 a semester in personal expenses, & $600 in transportation. Choose the least expensive dorm, trim you personal expenses and you can cut some loan $$'s out. Our D was offered unsubsidized loans also, but we turned them down.

When does UT send you a financial aid summary on paper via mail? I know there are estimates of tuition cost, dorm fee, and etc. online, but I want to have an exact financial aid summary to use to compare to other schools’ offers.

got my package today!
heres what it looks like. my efc was 00200 i think?

Federal Pell Grant $5,400
University Tuition Grant -Freshman only $2,900
Federal Direct Subsidized Loan $3,500
Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan $2,000
Federal Direct Parent Loan for Undergrad Students $11,858

And people who are wondering why the aid packages are stupid low this year… take into account that with the budget cuts they CANNOT cut people who are already on financial aid at the school
