Anyone sign up for the Student Search Service?

And get a bunch of junk mail?

That’s what it does! College junk mail, anyway.

Heh, when I was applying for college in the fall of 2003 I signed up for it and received a deluge of mail from some schools I had never heard of. I kept a lot of it until the end of the year, then tossed it. (I did get some really good mailings because of SSS, though – I got some mail from Harvard, Columbia, and Yale. :D)

I feel so bad that I signed up for it. I’ve been mailed tons of college material from colleges I’ve never heard of. It felt good at first, and I did get one from Columbia and Duke =), but now it’s just unnecessary. I can’t imagine the unnecessary paper and waste the whole thing costs.

Yep, same here. I get mail every week, ranging from brochures to letters to magazine-sized walkthroughs along with emails. I’ve been un-subscribing, so it’s loosening up.

Never ever sign up again. EVER.

Didn’t sign up this year :)

College mail went down from 10 messages a day to 1 a week at most :)

Plus, it’s not like they’re inviting you to enroll, it’s just a “Hey, we exist, check us out.” And honestly, the good schools are well-known. The “hidden gems,” well… you don’t wanna dig through a mile-high pile to find 'em.

SSS=useless
