I just got a call from my school tonight that I am apparently supposed to take the ASVAB this Wednesday, which I have neither heard of or prepared for. I'm a little nervous to say the least. It's supposed to be only for placement and "career inventory" and my school has promised that the military does nothing with the results. What is it about? Is there anything I can do to prepare? I normally score very high on standardized tests and I'm worried that this could bring me down. Help appreciated! Also, if there is a forum for this then by all means, I'd love for this thread to be moved, but I didn't see one.

It is a test the military uses to make sure you work in a field you are capable, for example, to be a mechanic, there is a portion of the test you need to score well. The military recruiters will use it for recruitment purposes. They can see what fields you are qualified if you want to join the military. No reason to study to prepare.

Thanks for the advice, however my school has explicitly said that they will not make the results available to the military or military recruiters, and I have no desire to go into the military. What is on it that I should be worried or not worried about?
