Anyone tell you not to bother applying to Cornell because you will get rejected?

So I just had a free 30 minute consultation with a college admissions counselor, told her my stats (which are good)..and she told me i shouldnt bother applying because i will get rejected..thank god it was a free consultation, never on earth will i spend money to get counseled from the company

Let's see, I will show them i will get in

haha just wondering what are your stats?

Pffff don’t listen to whoever said that! Nobody knows truly except trained admissions officers at Cornell. Don’t let it bumb you out :)

what about yale iwantyale?

my parents were beyond ****ed that I was even applying to Cornell because they thought it was a complete waste of money…they also thought I wouldn’t get in Rutgers.

fire your “college counselor”

if you dont apply, you will never know if you are accepted OR rejected. doesnt hurt ;)

@OP Just wondering, but what are stats?

People with not-so-great stats are certainly encouraged to apply. The only problem is: it is pretty hard to get accepted with not impressive stats UNLESS affirmative action is in the play. Even if they got in, they are most likely the ones that are famous for struggling with a tough Cornell education. All things need to be considered and not just to try to get in to a top school.

2200 SAT, 90% GPA but hard courses

and yale is outta my way lol, i made this name when i loved yale, and my gpa is too low fo rit

don’t let anyone tell you you can’t apply to Yale either :)

90% gpa is okay, but i take tough courses, not just APs but i have tons of credits from colleges…and my ECs are outstanding

if you’re white middle class you could be at a disadvantage…

but if you’re in state and apply to cornell’s statutory colleges you might have a shot though!

don’t live in state :(

but im for sure NOT applying to cas

I know a lot of people who have been accepted to Cornell and Brown with very low GPA’s. When I say low, I am talking about 2.8-3.3 range. One of my friends was garanteed a spot for th e class of 2012 with a 3.3, another with a 2.8. Good luck and write strong essays! Hope you get in!

^Just wondering, what do you think got them in? Hooks, essays, ec’s, or just plain fit?

Guess what. I was told by my counselor, " don’t even bother applying. You are still completinh the requirements. They won’t even take into consideration any part of your aplicatioin. You have a good GPA, but it’s cornell and won’t accept you".
I didn’t care,so I applied, got accepted, went to his office to laugh at his face, and got kicked out of there lol. DON’T LET ANYONE MAKE YOU DOUBT ABOUT YOUR POTENTIAL! SIMPLY TRY IT!

nice!!! haha yeah i hate ppl like that, and i hate guidance councelers, mine sounds just like urs

but congrats!!! what school did u get into? CAS?

Screw college counselors. All the college stuff can be successfully navigated without the need of 3000 dollar college “counselors.” All you need is a little organization and perseverance. Dont fall into the trap of paying thousands for these counselors and SAT prep. All of this can be done without spending such exuberant sums of money.

Anyways, that’s just my 2 cents. It worked for me…

look if she or he tells you, you are not going to make it, it is might be true on scales greater that 70%. mind you that cornell is an ivy school, they have one big number in their equation. <<< personal character>>> and it is weighted highly. this could be any where from improving your grades to how long you have played a sport. dont be discouraged, because dont forget that you can use this as your weapon. you can explain on you essay and your iinterview why your stats are not so good. and <<< dont tell them that you think it is bad>>> that would show that you are not confident. dont lie or try to get some one to cry and you should do well.
N.B if you want to get a second opinion post a <chance me=“”> on the cornell and post the link on this page</chance>

yeah i agree…and its funny that those councelers tell you that you can’t get in, because arent they going to get more money? i know the one counceler who told me i dont have a chance, im not going to pay her any money or tell ppl she has good service. she just lost business.if they were smart, they would tell ppl they could get in anywhere…which they should anyhow cause they make ppl feel bad
