What are you qualified to do?

i dont have a license for anything if thats what you are asking. if not then i dont know how to answer that question

The reason I ask is because you don’t want to file folders but what are you really qualified for?

im qualified for anything that doesn’t require licenses or special requirements. i gave filing folders as an example because if i want to do that i can do that at basically anywhere (besides i already got like 3 whole summers worth of experience on filing folders), no need to travel a hour to the medical center to do that.

i just need to know if i’m interested in volunteering there or not so i can decide to apply or not.

I think he’s asking if he’ll be able to do work that actually involves dealing with patients instead of the usually background jobs volunteers get.

As a volunteer, the most you’ll do is wheel patients around or fetch them something. It’s not like you are qualified to do anything else.

Don’t discount putting together charts though. You’ll gain an appreciation for the bureaucracy that plagues our health care system and you can ask the nurses questions about the various conditions you see in them.

Oh thats pretty good. maybe i should apply after all

I’m volunteering in an ER right now and it’s been a great experience. In the description, it sounded like I would only be transporting patients and performing errands for the nurses. Once the nurses and ER docs learned I was pre-med, they expanded my tasks. For instance, I get to do the EKGs on patients when they come in.

at cayuga medical center? wow

No no…this is in New Orleans.

Oh, that makes more sense i guess haha.
