I’m a senior at a high school in Maryland, in Montgomery County. That itself leads to an interesting thing - my school county is literally among the best in the nation, and some of our schools send a lot to Umich every year. However, my school is among the worse in this county (high poor population), and nobody has even applied in a long time.
Now for personal info. I’ve wanted to attend Umich since elementary school due to family history. It is my number one, and if I get in, money would be the only reason I don’t attend. I want to be an engineer, and I a particularly interested in nuclear engineering, which Umich is renowned for.

Father and Grandfather are both EC legacy, grandfather is an active donor to alumni association
33 ACT (I have a 1440 SAT I elected not to send)
4.00 GPA, 4.72 WGPA (somewhat inflated in freshman/soph years because my school system weights classes that shouldn’t be weighted)
My classes are the toughest my school offers - it’s IB, so I’m enrolled in the Diploma Programme, meaning that I’ve taken 6 and 5 IB classes are junior and senior year, respectively. I also took AP US History/US gov/BC calc, my freshman and sophomore years, and got 5s on all. I’m taking AP stat now. Also been taking PLTW classes, will complete this year.
ECs include 3 varsity sports (XC, track, lacrosse) for 4 years each, though lax was only 3 because I played JV freshman year, was captain of XC. Also includes NHS, It’s Academic Club, and about 150 volunteer hours documented by school system
Also worked last summer as paid intern at NIH as part of a competitive internship.
I have fairly strong essays that I spent a lot of time on. 2 are about running, which I know is a lot, but one is my commonapp essay and the other is the activity essay. It kind of just happened.
And that’s… well, pretty much it.
