I'm currently a sophomore in high school, and have always been a straight A student. However, upon entering my freshman year I encountered a French teacher who gave me B's for 2 semesters. This not only ruined my hopes of ever learning French, but obviously brought my GPA down considerably. This year I am still having trouble in French, and there is a possibility I will get 2 more B's. If I end up with around a 3.7 GPA what are the chances I can get into Michigans Math and Science Academy? Keep in mind my grades in mathematics and science classes are all A's and have been throughout high school.

Dude, you’re a Sophomore. Chill out. A 3.7 isn’t the world’s greatest GPA, but it’s nothing to scoff at. Just knock your tests out of the park, stay involved in ECs, take hard classes (AP/IB and Honors, though less important than the other two), and apply ED! If you’re in-state, that helps, too.

your honestly worried about get getting 2 B’s? your worried about a 3.7? While 3.7 isn’t a 4.0, it’ll get you in if you put up very good scores (32+ ACT) and have some good EC’s or a hook of some sort. As a sophmore you need to relax and continue to work hard, but have some fun as well.

I got in with a 3.5. Relax.

B’s ruined your chances of ever learning french? If you are that tightly wound I suggest going to an easier university.

^ exactly what I was thinking. kick that attitude out on the corner where it belongs. If you honestly think a B in a class inhibits your ability to learn, you need to have a chat with yourself. I just got a B in my Honors Government class and I’ve learned TONS of stuff. Use your B’s and C’s as motivation to learn more if you are that serious of a student. My dad always said, “Good grades are secondary to what you learn, but if you learn a lot, odds are you will do well.”

To answer your question, no. Having a 3.7 will not get you rejected.

But if getting a B makes you unable to learn a certain subject, then you’re not going to learn very much. Like everyone else said that’s a bad way to look at things.

Plenty of people have gotten in to Michigan with a 3.7. Just saying. Chill out, k?
