Anyone willing to transfer to ERC?

I’ve been just been admitted to UCSD for fall 2015! I am very excited - thrilled even - however I got into Roosevelt College, which I really did not want!

Is anyone willing to do a “one on one” transfer to ERC from either Muir, Warren or Marshall? I understand that ERC is great for history and writing, however that is not my forte!

Please consider this offer :)))

Hi @gsdubz‌, my understanding is that even if you find someone to switch with, college switches are generally not permitted unless you can demonstrate that your graduation date would otherwise be affected. Even then, you would still have to complete the MMW sequence.

It’s true that ERC’s GE requirements are highly structured; however, all six of the colleges have GEs with some emphasis on history or writing. Furthermore, your college doesn’t affect your major study, so technically all of the colleges are good for whatever your field of study is.

What are some of your concerns regarding ERC? It’s considered one of the most social colleges and probably the most beautiful. Furthermore, the overwhelming majority of students are happy with their college community (even in Revelle and ERC).

@groverrohan‌ Thanks for the advice!

I think that I mostly worried about the intensive writing GEs and I want to know why many people consider ERC as one of the harder colleges. Personally I struggle with writing and I want to make sure that I am able to succeed if I accept UCSD.

The amount of reading in MMW and volume of GEs required can be intimidating for a lot of ERC students (I’m in a similar boat as a Revelle first-year). However, there are a lot of resources available for students who struggle with writing—I promise you’re not the only one. In addition to TA discussions and office hours, the UCSD Writing Center is extremely useful to anyone looking for help with an essay or concerned about a writing grade. As long as you take advantage of the resources UCSD and ERC offer you, there is no reason that you can’t earn a solid grade and become a better writer in the process.

A list of writing resources can be found here:

Let me know if you have any other questions!

My son was upset when he ended up in ERC in 2013 for the same reasons you cite. This is his 2nd year and he loves it there. Writing was not his strength but he has found that not only is he a much improved writer now, but he actually has enjoyed the MMW series. The dorms are newer and very nice, it has a great social atmosphere, and is in a great location. You can’t just trade with someone in a different school. It is not that simple. Give it a try.

I have a family friend who was a CS major at UCSD. He originally didn’t want to be in ERC, but he ended up loving it!
