Anyone with average SAT scores apply?

1870 SAT!!! this sucks. i dont think im getting in :(

1830 SAT... 4.28-4.29 W GPA

Darn SATs. -__-

My friend applied and will probably get accepted to UCSD (its her target) with an SAT score that didn't break 2000 (it hovered in the 1900s), however she is ELC and she has a 4.33 (highest possible at our school) UC GPA.

2290 ?

Close. I got a 2320 and my two highest SAT II scores were 790 and 780.

But still, 3400+2320+790+780 is still only 7290 out a possible 8500 total points. Someone with a 4.0 UCGPA can achieve that fairly easily, too.

don't you have to multiply the sat scores by 4/5?

Oh yeah oh yeah oh yeah

I forgot about the .8x

That makes my score look even less impressive

why do we have to multiply by .8
the ucsd comprehensive report we are all familiar with on that one site is from 2004 before the 2400 sat
truthfully... i dont even get the formula it provides lol particularly the stuff in parentheses
"All required examinations, SAT I and SAT II x 0.8 (SAT I Verbal & Math; SAT II Writing & Math, and SAT II Subject Tests). See the UCSD General Catalog, pg 35 for an ACT to SAT conversion table"
i think now that we have the new 2400 scale sat... UCSD probably would have changed from 3200 points to 4000? makes things simpler instead of capping at 3200

Before the 2400 SAT, students had to take SAT II writing or the ACT to fulfill that requirement anyway. The 3200 cap is to prevent the school from being even more largely number oriented than it already is.

i applied w/ a 1900

I applied with an 1810...I've been accepted to Cal Poly SLO and UCSB already. Waiting on UCSD and UCLA.

The Point system is outdated.

so how do we calculate scores for SAT?

say i got

SAT 1940
SAT II 760, 760, 710

I add 1940, 760, 760 and multi that by .8?

that's right

so i added all my points up, and now i dont think im getting in unless they read my essays and deeply consider if i would be an asset to their campus, which i definitey would.

i guess cancer ruins your dreams, and schools plot you on a graph and if you fall below the cutoff, your done

that's why the point system kind of sucks

but, at least uc berkeley and la don't do that

No.
Any major life changing events they give 500 pts. So you are not shunned.

yeah adn with the point system its really easy to accrue alot of points. 500 for life changing event, 300 for income under 30 k, 150 for income under 60 k (i believe this is for family?), 150 for single parent house hold, 150 for one parent going to some college and other none, 150 for 30-39 a-g uc courses, 300 for 40 or more, 300 for significant exc, 300 for 200+ hours fo volunteering. So getting alot of points is not difficult esp knowing we dunno how many points essays are given

but also yeah, i applied with a fairly decent sat sscore of 2140, 730 math 2c but 610 physics but my major flaw is a 3.8 w uc gpa. so we'll see how things turn out

im applying with a 1650 sat score =\ i got into ucd ucsb and uci though at least.

I applied with a 3.7 GPA and 1800 on the SAT. I doubt I'll get in and I really don't want to go to UCSD anyway.
