GUYS…i have a question.
it says that i have X units to complete. does that count fall courses or not???

^ My TAG got rejected for the same reason. it said I have or will have more than 80 transferrable units, from a four year college and community college combined. But I am pretty sure not all of my four year college classes were transferrable, so I don’t even know if they actually looked at my four year classes and evaluated them. i need to contact some one about that.

sooo…Davis tag rejected. I’m an engineering major. I’m wondering if someone can help me figure out why…

" Your UC Davis TAG was not approved for the following reason(s):

* TAGs for your chosen selective major require that certain courses be completed by the end of spring term 2011 with a specified GPA. Our evaluation indicates that you have not met the required GPA in those courses.

After an evaluation of your coursework, the following UCD major prep course(s) were deemed to be missing:

* ENG 004
- OTHER ENGLISH "

But I do the required GPA:

ASSIST Certified Courses: 3.19 78.00/117.00
Non-ASSIST Certified Courses: 3.59 18.00/ 27.00
Overall: 3.24

and from the Davis tag FAQ page, the GPA requirement is
“- 2.803.10 GPA (dependent upon major)”

I have taken the two required English classes (UWP 1 and English 3). So why does it say I’m missing English? The only course I am missing is ENG 4, but that’s it. I’d appreciate any help :)

cici19, I was concerned about this too!, as I fit the same category as you – I have 28 units from a 4-year university. What did your UC Davis TAG response say? (if you don’t mind can you post it?)

Thank you for submitting a UC Davis TAG. Based upon your TAG community college counselor’s assessment, it has been determined that you have not met the UC Davis TAG criteria. We adhere to specific guidelines for TAG approval due to the nature of the guarantee. You may still be eligible for admission to UC Davis; many students remain competitive for admission without the guarantee of a UC Davis TAG. We encourage you to visit your community college counselor to review your circumstances and to pursue Fall 2011 admission by filing the UC application for admission and scholarships this November or at a later time for a future term.

Student meets UCD TAG eligibility criteria.

No idea why they said I do not meet the criteria, when I went with my counselor through the entire process.

@Oliver_Twist this is what it says:

Your UC Davis TAG was not approved for the following reason(s):

You will reach or exceed 80 sem. / 120 qtr. transferable units of combined credit from 4-year baccalaureate degree granting institutions and 2-year community colleges by the time of enrollment.

UC Davis Undergraduate Admissions

and i had 30 units from a four year college but I highly doubt that ALL those classes were transferable.

UC Davis Tag APPROVED! Yee!

However, im planning to not take a course that I listed on my “planned courses” for Spring 2011. I know I have to send them an update in Jan 2011 about the courses im taking for that semester. Do you think not taking one of the planned courses (is a prerequisite according to assist.org) could get my TAG rejected.

The course has conflicts with another that I need to take in order to increase my chances for UC Berkeley. =/

I know what you mean cici19.

Don’t you just wish they’d let us know which ones are transferrable beforehand? Every time I’ve e-mailed the UC (UCI, Davis, SD) which courses from the 4-year will transfer, they always pose the same exact response: “We do not do course pre-evaluations for applicants until after the application process is complete. Sincerely, UC Admissions Office.”

So I’m guessing you completed around 80-30 = 50 units [or less] at your CCC? Did you try calling the UCD TAG Manager on the phone? Her first name is Cindy.

^ I totally agree with you!! its soo frustrating. I sent them an email too, asking if they would evaluate my courses and tell me which ones would transfer… so i would not go over the unit cap. they told me to look at the Uc and CSU catalog and compare the classes and figure out myself which ones would transfer. I did that, but their is no definite way of knowing!! and of course the community college counsellors are no help. they make applying too complicated! and i think they didn’t even evaluate my classes and just rejected my TAG looking at my 80+ units. Hope they don’t do that for regular admissions!.. ok rant over… lol

Would you happen to have the contact info for cindy?

Yes: (530) 754-7649 / cabevc@ucdavis.edu according to the last paragraph on this page http://admissions.ucdavis.edu/tag/criteria/F11TAG_changes.pdf

Hopefully she is an exception to what seems to characterize every other UC Admissions/CCC Counselor, as you yourself too have experienced lol. Is your overall GPA over 3.1ish? If she ends up saying no, you’ll probably still have a good chance (over 65%) at getting in via regular admission I think.

Davis/riverside approved here, waiting on UCSD, anyone have a clue when those will be out? thanks and grats to everyone who got approved

@perfectSky: UCSD and UCSC will be releasing their TAG decisions on 15th which is next Monday haha

RedSkies: Although the school has accepted you, please remember it is contingent upon completion of all required TAG courses. If Assist says the course is a “required” - then not taking the class will disqualify you from this TAG program because you will not meet the minimum requirements. Tough choices - one option is taking the class at another community college. If you have this option - definitely go for it so that you leave the doors open and at least have a guarantee that you’ll be admitted.

Bottom line: all TAG requisities must be met in order to have the guaranteed spot.

Thanks a lot! and yes as of right now my GPA is around 3.55. and honestly UCD isn’t really my first choice. but i really do want to know if they actually evaluated my classes or not. I shall call her right now! lol

@ berkeleyphil: That’s good news; do you know if UCSD will be a generic message saying “We have received your TAG app and now look forward to receiving your regular UC app”, like what UCI’s was? Or will UCSD be specific and list all specifics for each of us?

@ cici19: np, yeah UCD isn’t mine either, UCSD is! If she isn’t there call on Monday – from what I’ve experienced / general emotional knowledge, people who work in such offices might be more forthcoming on a Monday as opposed to a Friday if they’re in a dreary/weekend mood. Though she might be an exception to that.

^ Mine too! and they have a 90 unit cap… better than a 80 unit cap lol. And I am pretty sure UCSD’s TAG decision would be a generic message like UCSB’s because I called them once and the lady who I talked to said they will not let us know for sure until the regular decisions come out. and yes. She was pretty mean too. lol

@Oliver_Twist: I’m sure that UCSD will be sending ambiguous messages like UCSB and UCI. But still, they will release 2 different letters for sure just like UCSB and UCI did. So that we can just assume that we’re on right track. But I really hope that UCSD will give us a definite answer.

@Oliver and cici,

Davis isn’t my first choice either. It is not because I do not like the school, tho. My first desired major is nuclear engineering, which is only offered at UCB. So Berkeley is truly my destination. However, the competition is so overwhelming, I can only hope for the best. In reality I know the chance of getting turned down is huge.

^ I would love to go to UCLA or UCB. They both have awesome psychology programs, but like you said, the competition is intense!! Well we’ll find out next year! :)
