Im currently enrolled in:

BC calc
AP chem
Dual credit spanish
AP psyc
Adv. Writing

I dont know if I should drop BC calc because it might get difficult with AP chem and I dont want to get overwhelmed. Also if I dropped it I would be able to take AP psyc and Honors economics second semester and an english class of my choice... where as If I didnt I would only be able to take AP psyc or Honors econ and not the english class I wanted to take.

Help me please!! Freaking out

BC approximates a full year of college freshman calculus.

AB approximates about a semester or a bit more of college freshman calculus.

If you want to prepare yourself for the rigor of college math courses in a math-intensive major, consider BC. If you want a more gentle introduction to calculus, consider AB.

BC is faster in that it covers more integration and limit things, but overall the problems are harder than in AB (like trig and inverse trig are used more) you need to learn polar and parametric equations which is basic but polar graphs can be confusing. Then you learn series, (geometric, Taylor and maclaurin and the Lagrange error bound) which is basic but plenty of students have trouble with it.

If you aren’t going into a STEM major, particularly engineering, then I would say to be safer and take AB.

Ap chem is a difficult class to take with anything. I took it my sophomore year with two other aps and though I passed the exam, it was work. Ap calc ab is really easy…I passed with a 4 with no struggle at all. But since you’re doing ap Chem, I would still stick with ab.

Im looking to go into engineering by the way but BC is only a semester more than AB

I took my AP chem and AP calc BC my junior year and yes i was struggling a bit but that was only because i was lazy. AP chem is difficult as the course goes into deep especially when you do pressure, buffers etc. AP calc BC was really boring and yes it will require more memorization of all formulas. the AP exam will not provide you with any formulas. BC calc will cover you the entire freshmen year of math. Since you want to do engineering, i strongly recommend BC calculus and when you take the AP exam, you get both AB and BC score.

then I wouldnt be able to take the english I wanted to next semester
