I have AP credits for Chemistry and Calculus. If I use these credits, am I supposed to take different math/science courses as a freshman? Or can I use these to take more university requirements or electives?

That depends a lot on what you think you might be majoring in. Our student had credit for Chem, for example. However, because he was pretty sure about eng when he started as a freshman, his Chem AP credit did not release him from the req Chem for engineering. He also has several credits for Latin, but because there is no lang req for engineering, they are fairly useless. Yes, the credits show up on his transcript, but it did not allow him to be released from any of the Arts and Letters courses that are required for engineers. Your FYS advisor will look at all of your AP credit and place you accordingly. You will have more flexibility registering for spring semester of your freshman year than this fall.

You have to send them at some point or another, otherwise they'd have kids saying they got 5s on 13 different AP test and getting tons of credit.

If you had them sent as part of the AP when you did testing, you may want to check w/ND to make sure they have received the results. If you just had them included with your app, it is pretty certain that ND will want official notification of the scores from the AP. At any rate, your FYS advisor will be able to tell you if the results are in your file and when they begin to start placing you in classes. I know that our son had to have his scores re-sent at the request of his FYS advisor. It was our understanding that ND receives tons of scores from people; including some who never even apply to ND.
