I’m currently and Freshman now and I’m wondering when you guys took AP Art History. Our school needs us to take a year long course which is art related but our school only offers it during junior and senior year. But from what I know, other students from other schools take can take AP Art History in sophomore year. When did you guys take AP Art History and what would it take to gather enough credentials to challenge for that class. By challenge I mean by petition to be in the class.
I wouldn’t recommend trying to take AP Art History as a Freshman.
I am a senior currently enrolled in 5 APs, 3 Dual Enrollment, and level 4 Honors Foreign Language and AP Art History was my lowest grade for the first marking period (tied with AP Chemistry). The only reason why I pulled an A- is because of extra credit and other grades such as homework and essays. It is extremely memory and detail oriented; there are excessive amounts of notes to take and pieces to remember. Just as in your case, only seniors are allowed to take AP Art History at my school. Concurrent enrollment in college-level English (AP/DE/AICE) is also required due to the writing-intensive nature of the course; people who take Honors or Regular English are not allowed to take it.
Also, if you try and “challenge” school officials to take AP Art History and end up struggling in the class (like many do), it will reflect rather poorly on you.
