In the open ended question that requires you to use an example outside the European tradition my teacher said that pieces from Egypt and the Near East are acceptable, but you will not get the maximum amount of points if you use them. Can someone please confirm or deny this? The test is tomorrow.

Thankavu~

I can’t be positive, but I thought that the newer exams don’t count them as non-western because they are essentially the building blocks of art and society; man was born here. These are the civilizations that you first learn about in world history as well as in art history.

Just teach yourself 1 section of non western and memorize. You still have more than 12 hours until the exam- Heck, I taught myself 4 non westerns in depth in 4 days, needless to say I have a bunch of ingrained japanese an american knowledge in those sleepless nights.

I’ve never heard that Egyptian gets you fewer points, but it’s pretty easy to just memorize an Islamic illuminated manuscript, a couple of Japanese woodblock prints, and a mosque or two.

my teacher told my class that egypt/near east art, along with frida kahlo does not count for nonwestern and if we try to use any of those as nonwestern, we will not get any points. just memorize 2 architectural pieces and a few art works.
