I'm thinking about swapping out AP Computer Science AB for AP Art History seeing that AP Art History seems like a better fit for my intended major... history. anyways what is AP Art History all about? is it like an art class or like a history class? if i like us and world history classes will i like this class?

AP Art History really depends on the teacher. If you have a bad teacher be prepared to do a lot of studying for the AP exam, it is not easy. Tons of memorization(some of you think APUSH and Euro are a lot of memorization; they are nothing compared to APAH). Haven't received my score for the exam yet so i can't comment on the curve. Its definitely very interesting though and as an intended history major I think you would enjoy the class.

i got a 3 on the exam, and ditto...lots of memorization

i took it and loved it, so i would recommend it, but i had a great teacher. a lot of memorization, but i found that the more ytou learned, the less you actually had to memorize b/c you could find things to say without knowing all the minute details. that being said, i havent gotten my scores back yet, but i didnt find the exam terribly difficult

so what is the general concensus??? is this more like a The History of Art class or more like Learn How to Analyze the Art class?

both....u analyze are and study where it originated and how it is related to other thigns during that time. if u took ap euro u should be good in this class. vice versa

I actually thought that there was very little to memorize. It seemed very common-sense reasoning to me. You see the picture, know the era it comes from, and deduce things from that. If you can easily internalize the styles of different artists and already have a passing familiarity with artists' names, it's not too hard. Just make sure you have a good book with lots of pictures.

I got a 5 on the exam.

A major in history? What kind of career can you persue with that? I'm pretty obsessed with history myself, especially world, but I dont see any high paying/fun history jobs other than HS teacher.

I made a 4 on the exam, but was expecting a 5.

Art History is mainly a history class, and not at all an art class. You simply study events in history and see how the art of that time period reflect those events, or beliefs and practices of that culture.

You can always get your PHD(teaching) or work for a historical society - that doesnt pay that well but it is very fun and interesting work. In addition if you change your mind you can always go to Law or Business grad school with an undergrad major in History.
