Is this too much for a freshman? It’s my first year in high school and I don’t want to stress myself too much. I have a week to decide course changes. Here are some options I want to hear upperclassmen, undergraduate and graduate opinions on.
- Should I drop the Calc since I already have all but 1 required math credit?
- AP HuG, from what I can tell, is a mildly cc lucrative, yet easy course. In that case, should I not prioritize this course?
- AP Bio was strangely enough, not recommended at my school... I read over the Chem 1 and AP Bio books over the summer and the teacher at my high school is notorious for staying unfaithful to axiom. How should I deal with this type of teacher?
AP Psych seems kind of difficult, but manageable, so I’ll just keep it.
Well, I think whether you should keep or drop some of these courses depends on what you want to major and/or minor in…
If you plan on going into STEM, then staying in AP Calc and Bio is probably a good idea. However, if you do not plan on going into the medical field, it may be a good idea to drop AP Bio with another Honors or AP Science course because of the teacher and how it isn’t recommended. If you’re going into the medical field, I recommend sitll staying because AP Bio is crucial. In that case, attempt to buy lots of course prep books (Barron’s and Princeton Review, etc.), and I also recommend Khan Academy. Khan Academy has some really good stuff on Bio, and even if I have never taken AP Bio or plan on doing so, it helped me in Bio Honors a lot.
If you’re planning on going into the Humanities, it is probably a better idea to keep AP HUG and Psychology. However, if you plan on dropping AP Calc, you should plan on taking it at some point in high school, even if you only take up to AB.
I’m only a rising sophomore, so what I said above could be wrong. If it is wrong, I do apologize.
Either way, best of luck to you and good luck in high school! While high school can be fun, you’ll need it. I hope this was helpful.
Have a good day!
I agree with @anthonytheboy that you should keep in mind what you want to do when you grow up.
If you don’t know, I would recommend you drop AP Psych. Human geo is a fun class, with subjects that are very applicable to the real world. AP Bio is hard, but if medicine is on the table at all for you, it will come in handy. Also, if you take AP Calc this year you could dual enroll and knock out a whole bunch of math classes for college.
AP psych is interesting, but psychology is hard to turn into a job. If you are really interested in psych, take it another year
What would your full schedule be? Are you taking a foreign language? What classes have you taken before and how have you done in them?
