So during my sophomore year next year, I would like to take Honors Chemistry and AP Biology at the same time. My current Honors Biology teacher has told me that it's a very bad idea to take AP Biology without any knowledge of chemistry. This year, we've learned some topics of chemistry in biology, such as ionic and covalent bonds, but that's all I know. Am I going to be at a severe disadvantage? Can I easily teach myself the chemistry topics needed in AP Bio, or am I making a huge mistake? Will this make or break me possibly getting an A in the class or getting a 5 on the AP exam? Thanks!

I don’t think you’ll be at a disadvantage. The AP Bio book explains the chemistry topics you’ll need.

No you will not be at a severe disadvantage. At my school, the norm is to take AP Bio in sophomore year before taking any chemistry courses. Many people get A’s and 5’s. That being said, chemistry definitely helps you understand certain topics in biology, especially macromolecules and things like that, but in no way would I say it’s necessary.

Thank you for your reply! That’s good to know because I’m looking forward to taking it, and I really don’t want to wait until junior year. Lol
