Is it a good idea to take AP Biology my sophomore year???

So I’m currently a freshman and first semester is ending pretty soon. I am planning on taking AP Biology next year but I didn’t take Biology H this year  I took Biology with Medical Emphasis. We basically learn what the honors biology students are learning at the same pace, but we focus more on the human anatomy and in honors they do more presentations and have more projects. Also, our tests are little bit easier than theirs because it’s all multiple choice, but it requires a lot of studying (most of my classmates fail it) I am always worried about grades so I study A LOT (1-2 hours each night during the week of tests) so I currently have an A+. My point is that is it a good idea to be taking AP bio next year considering that I didn’t take Biology Honors? And how rigorous is it? Will I have a hard time?

I’d say ask the AP Bio teacher at your school if they think you’ll be prepared enough. They’ll be able to tell you.

Personally, I think it sounds like you have great study habits, and that’s exactly what you need for AP Bio. I have a two sophomore friends who are taking it this year after taking a shortened and compressed bio course over the summer. They’re both doing well, because they enjoy biology and have great study habits.

You should take chemistry honors before you take AP biology.
In addition, make sure that over the three years remaining you take chemistry and physics at any level (honors chemistry + honors physics or AP physics 1).

Agreed. But certainly ask the opinion of the AP teacher.

If you can and would really like to take AP Bio, you can try to find an online provider for chemistry and bio honors. Even if you don’t have time to do these courses over the school year, doing it online over the summer may work since you have more time.

Just as a side note: Note that AP Bio is cramming-intensive, so if you do well then in that class, then you might do well in APUSH, AP Psych, AP World History, AP Gov, etc.
