AP Calc BC 2011: What did everyone think?

Do not talk about any of the problems

I thought 1 through 4 were very easy and fair (although 4 did get a bit tedious at a certain part). But 5 and 6 – I had no clue. I scarcely think people here took the same test as me (but we did all have the same 6, right? Or is Form B one of those ones taken at the same time?) because I thought previous #6s and #5s were much, much easier.

With calc MC was a cake… I had 15min left over at the end…w/o calc I knew how to do problems but ran out of time on 4-5 of them which sucked. FR was a disaster…Just…I blew it, maybe salvaged a couple points average on each one.

Yeah Nº5 wasn’t logistic. And the key to Nº6 was just some simple memorization.

…do you get partial credit for correct work? or does that just depend on the rubric?

I thought the MC was fine, but the FRQ’s were murder. I can’t believe some people took the same test as me- though I would get parts of all of them, by the time i got to the last part of the question most of the questions (like part c or d) I usually had no idea what I was doing.

I think it just depends on the rubric, Clavul? But I am not sure, and it never hurts to hurt.

I found the MC to be laughably easy, as well as FRQ 1-5. Even the 6th problem was really easy for me, since I had done a few previous questions like that the night before.

I thought the test in general was easy. I got a bit overconfident and misread around 2 MC questions, but oh well; I’m fairly confident that i got >90% on the FRQs after talking to a few other test takers.

It depends on the subquestion. Subquestions will have different amounts of points that can be earned. For many, properly completing the steps needed for the final answer will earn points.

Were the MC the same for both test Q and R?

The MC were much, much easier than I expected. I probably made some stupid mistakes as I always do, but I think I did well on them.

FRQ?

…yeahno. That was just bad. I got answers for every piece of every problem but I’m not confident in my answers.

I hope I got a 4 or a 5, but knowing how many stupid mistakes I tend to make, I’m not completely sure.

I reworked parts C & D of FRQ #6. I’ll post pictures on here of how I solved them once the embargo is lifted.

For those of you wondering about the scoring on the frq:

My super awesome teacher actually gave us all the scoring guidelines (answers) to frqs on past exams. AP looks for specific pieces in your answers and allots points to each part. For example, if a question requires you to take the integral of something, you get one point for writing down the integral (with correct bounds) and another for evaluating it correctly.

In other words, writing down something will likely get you a point! :)

Agreed that the MC was pretty basic, but the FRQs were a little rough for me…The only one that I’m absolutely sure on was the first FRQ of the non-calculator section. O_O

I don’t think you should post pictures. That would get a little wild. Talking about it…I’m sure AP Central can’t do much about that, or they would have to get everyone. However, pictures makes you one culpable person.

On the topic, the MC were really easy. Like always, the calculator part is type light. The FRQs are…original. I liked #3, because I was so used to seeing area, and then it broke out the other part of two dimensional figures. That was certainly fun, and made me feel like a boss because I thought of the answer so quickly. #6 can lick something. And there were no logistics at all, but AP Central is trying to trick you. It’s definitely a simple question.

As soon as we got to the non calculator section of the FRQs, everyone in the entire room starting laughing - likely because the question looked dumb hard, but it was really simple. I can’t remember numbers 4 and 5, but yeah, good test for me. No 252 for me!

I thought what they did with FRQ #3 was really cool. I couldn’t help but smile when I read the word “perimeter”.

Posting pictures is fine (as long as it’s 48 hours from the test). The multiple choice is what we aren’t ‘ever’ supposed to discuss when it comes to specific questions.

Exactly my thoughts.

I knew basically how to do them, but I’m realllly worried that I got things wrong. Hence my partial credit question. But the thing is, they won’t give out points for an answer that you made a mistake somewhere in the process but is mostly correct will they?

I’m pretty sure I got a 108/108; checked all my answers and computations multiple times. too bad they don’t tell us our raw score :S

I thought it was okay.

MC’s were okay. Might have made mistakes. Never know.

FR’s #1 and #2 <– Easy.
FR’s #4 <– Meh.
FR’s #5 <– Easy
FR’s #6 <– I got all except the (d). I remembered the formula for (d) but I was way too tired to even do it.
