AP Calc - TI - quick survey - CC'ers

Which model of calculator do you folks have? What do you intend to use for the exam?

TI Nspire?
TI 89?
TI 84+?
TI 83+?

If TI Nspire, also please advise which model?

Need to buy one for my sibling (for the ap calc exam in May - cost not an issue in the decision) asap and want to enquire with the experts here before buying the right model.

Thanks

I use and would recommend the TI-89. It can take derivatives and integrals which will make things easier/faster/allow double checking of answers on the calculator portion of the exam. However, some people upon discovering the differentiation and integration functions, become reliant on them and forget how to do it the old fashioned way, which they still need to be able to do.

As long as you practice your derivatives and integrals, then an 89 is your best bet. I’m not even sure if the CollegeBoard allows Nspires on AP exams.

Yes, the College Board does allow the Nspire.

I would recommend either the 89 or the Nspire. In terms of CAS, their systems are exactly the same (in fact the Nspire might be a tad bit better as it has one or two extra functions). But, in terms of programs (see [Welcome - ticalc.org](http://www.ticalc.org)) the 89 is much, much superior. Its your call, but a CAS is quite handy to have.
