AP Calculus AB 2013 Thread

Is it just me or do the FRQs seem easier than multiple choice? FRQs seem to test just the basic knowledge of stuff…like you can get a 7/9 on almost every one without even attempting part D.

^We should combine our brains because I do well on MC, but I average 4.5 points per FRQ.

Also, for the official FRQ answers/scoring rubrics, is there any reason why, when the limit for an integrand is really long (ex: -1.63324), CB just says “Let a=-1.63324!” Is it because they are just too lazy to type the numbers or should I do that on the AP?

1 week left…

3 days left…

Everyone is busy cramming lol

[AP Calculus AB - FRQ Collection](http://www.mszhao.com/calculus.cfm?subpage=1306470)

A really good archive of student responses on the FRQ.

Multiple choice has always been my strength. However, the FRQs will be my downfall. Anybody understand optimization? I never really picked up the concept. Or does it play too minor of a role on the exam for it to be practiced?

futfsu1, for optimization, you just take the derivative and set it equal to 0

Hey, I don’t understand how to find limits with trig functions

Goya fairly solid 5 on a practice test yesterday, feeling pretty good

@kimmylouie can you give me an example problem and I’ll do my best to help. Limits are second nature to me by now.

is optimization on the test? if so, what types of problems?

This is going to be a piece of cake

@collegedream29
Of course it will be on the test. You need to now things like optimizing areas (given a certain amount of fencing, optimize area within).

When was the last time optimization was on there? I can’t recall it in a while.

It seems the newer released exams emphasize some the later Calc lessons, such as area/volume, inverse trigs, and differential equations.

@kimmylouie
Well for starts, (cosx-1)/x=0 if approaching 0 and (sinx)/x=1 if approaching 0 also

Guys, can you’ll outline some important topics to cover up now please?!
Any ideas on the FRQ’s and topics that have higher chances of turning up on the paper?

I think FRQs regarding FTC are so common. Look over those for sure.

Hi can someone help me with these problems?

f(x) = 3 + Integral (5x, -1) of t^3dt , find f ’ (x).

F(x) = integrand (x, 0 ) of sqrt(t^3 + 1) dt then F ’ (2) =

& this one

F(x) = Integrand (x , 0 ) of Sqrt(x^3+1) dt

Also there is another type of problem I need help with but its more of a concept thing
I am not really sure what it is called but its when they give you a point on the original function and you write the integral with a # + Integral (_, _) its like its similar to 2008 question #4. (a).

Guys, how do you tell if something is an overestimate or an underestimate?!
