AP Calculus AB

Before the test, I said to a friend "4 is safe line for me.. I am positive I am going to get 5"

Right now... I know i didnt get a 5.. it's 3 or 4 depending on the curve

Plus I messed up the easiest question on the FR... so frustrated

I did well on the multiple choice, I think; I skipped 4 non-calculator and 1 calculator problem.

The FRQ's though... another matter entirely. I can't even discuss them because I've banished them from my mind.

I feel sorry for my teacher because everybody's going to be whining all day to her.

But yeah. If I pass, I will cry with joy. Because only divine intervention can help me now.

Anyone interested in making a chatroom?

ap calculus raped me.

The MC was really easy. I answered all of the questions right, most without too much hesitation. The FRQ.. first two weren't that bad. I ran out of time on three. I did the next three.. they were okay.. required some thinking but I finished everything to my satisfaction except 6c (I just showed partial work). Then I went back and did number three, which I didn't finish.. I worked backwards.. from d to a.. and I managed to at least answer everything.

I think the curve for this test will be low..

free response was nothing like all the old practice tests i did. the curve will have to be huge considering me and a few of my friends thought it was really hard, meaning it had to have been impossible for all the people in my calculus class who dont have straight 99-100s all year like us.

coot66 - There WAS a slope fields problem, as least on my exam (it was in the MC though, not the FRQ; haha, I know, everybody would have loved for the slope fields problem to be one of the FRQs...I would have loved that too :( ).

Multiple choice was SO INCREDIBLY EASY! I'm talking about BOTH sections (But apparently a lot of people here think that the second section was a lot harder than the first? I thought both were ridiculously easy; I left 0 blank).

FRQ was harder than I expected, a lot harder. If I had 15-20 more minutes to think things through it would have been easy. For me, the hardest part about the FRQ was thinking the problems through. The problems weren't hard, and I didn't see anything on there that wasn't covered in our class (I don't know what problems you guys are talking about that weren't covered in your classes...). The problem was that it took me quite a while to figure out how to tackle each problem, and, as a result, I left a couple sections on the problems blank. Not "INSANELY DIFFICULT" or "IMPOSSIBLE" like others describe, but more like "moderately difficult." I've done the 3 PR FRQs and the actual FRQs from the previous 3 years, and yes, I agree that this year's was the hardest.

I don't think the curve will be all too different this year compared to other years. I think from a general perspective, you could say that the MC was "RIDICULOUSLY EASY" and the FRQ was "RIDICULOUSLY HARD," so it'll balance itself out quite nicely (I personally think that the MC was more "easy" than the FRQ was "hard," but from everybody else's posts here it seems to be the other way around).

I got a low to mid 5 on all the practice exams I took. I'm guessing I got a mid to upper 4. A 5 would be cool, but I get the same amount of credit whether I get a 3, 4, or 5 (and I KNOW I at least got a 3 from just the MC).

I thought MC was much easier compared to the free response, but I didn't think it was super easy. Some of them were tricky. Last years exam also had really easy MC, but normal free response, so I'm thinking the curve will be bigger on ours (hopefully)

Azure326: I know mate. I meant FRQ. Out of curiosity, what's leaving 12 blank (M/C) start me off with? Technically (if I had answered all the FRQ right), could I still get a 5?

-The Blank Coot66

coot66 - You could probably still get a 5 with leaving 12 MC blank if you got ~5-6 on each FRQ.

45 - 12 = 33

33 x 1.2 = 39.6

You'd probably need ~30-35 more points to get the 5 from here, so ~5-6 on each FRQ.

If you didn't know 12 MC, I doubt you did well enough for a 5 on the rest.

^ lol ye that's a good point.

ammeg - Very good point, and I have to agree as I personally found the MC very easy and didn't leave any blank. You have to hope that you got all the MC that you answered correct (and didn't make any careless errors), and that you averaged 5-6 on the FRQ. But there's still hope!

umm ... what about skipping 9 MC ... good for a 4? (I really need a 4 >_<)

I found the MC pretty easy, but had to leave 2 blank on each section. The FR I didn't find too hard either. There were a few that I wasn't sure of, but only really one or two little sections...

I second that. Am I the only one that didn't think it was thaaaat hard?

I'm not expecting 5. Come on guys. I said "technically". I'm hoping for a 4 or a 3...

-The Expecting Coot66

The FRQ killed me, especially since I was not in an official AP class and did not know what to expect. I hope for a generous curve:)

Oh, yeah... and my calculator wonked out during part A of the FRQ's. That really hurt...

does anybody know for sure if the college board sets the cut off points for 5's and 4's based on how well the nation did that year?

or is the curve set before the exam?

Mc: decent, calc part was a joke. (one blank, i think one wrong so far)
FR: whole class went crazy on it. one kid was having a mini seizure during it because it was so frustrating.

maybe with 40+ mc, and ~33 FR i could get a 5...

about people saying that the easy MC will balance out all the score - just look at 03 multiple choice. those were also very easy, and those FR were a helluva lot easier then ours.

again, does anyone know when the curve is set for AP? after exam or is predetermined?

lucidity - Provided you got all the MC right, you could probably get a 4 from getting an average of a ~3 on each FRQ.
