AP Calculus BC, AP Physics 1, and AP Environmental Science?

I am currently a Junior at a very competitive high school. I want to major in Civil Engineering. My current roster is AP Calculus AB, AP U.S History, And Honors Physics. Next week, I am picking my classes for my senior year, and I am stuck between whether or not to take AP Environmental Science or AP Physics 1 with AP Calculus BC and AP Statistics. I definitely am taking BC and Stat though. Even though I am averaging a low A in Honors Physics, it is a lot of work, and I am nervous that I won't be able to fit in an AP course like that of AP Physics. I am up for the challenge, but at the same time, I don't want one class to bring my GPA down. As for AP Environmental Science, I took the regular course in my freshmen year. It was fairly easy. With the workload I'll have next year, do you think physics would be worth it, or should I just go and take AP Environmental Science?

What’s your major going to be?

@DaneBrick I’m going to edit it again, but I want to major in Civil Engineering. This is what makes it so hard because on College Board it says that if you want to be a civil engineer, you should take both.

DS16 is currently doing his Senior schedule. He has chosen AP for English, Calc, Comp Science, European History, and Physics.

He does well, but I wonder if his grades will slip if he is taking these plus working part time.

Is it better to have AP classes or a higher GPA?

It’s best to have AP classes with a high GPA but of course, we can’t discuss ideals - just reality; I think that you should be maintaining a decent/competitive GPA while enrolled in a number of APs - perhaps a 3.65+ with multiple APs a year; or a 3.75+ for more competitive schools.

@preamble1776 @laralei Honestly, all AP classes look so much better than taking a regular course. It only starts to be a bad thing when you are failing the class. When you take AP classes, this shows colleges that you are pushing yourself, and are ready for the college level. From experience, even though I have a lower GPA than some of my friends at my school, I don’t worry at all since I am taking harder classes.

@preamble1776 my GPA is a 3.79 right now. I expect it to be around a 3.9 by the end of the year since I’ve gotten straight As every quarter while taking AP classes.

There is no Physics B next year; it’s either Physics C or Physics 1/2. AP Environmental Science is not too difficult, but a lot of colleges do not give credit, if that’s an issue.

@skieurope I totally forgot that they changed it. Well, what would you recommend me taking?

I’d recommend Physics C for going into engineering.

@skieurope at my school, there’s only ap physics 1.
