AP Chem as sophmore?

I am a freshman lol. I need advice though, I am planning to listen to advice from a friend who is a full ride neuroscience major at Ohio State and take AP Chem straight after biology. What do you guys think?? My dad used to teach chem at a college and he majors in all that. Next year I'll take honors english -10, hon pre calc, hon spanish 3, regular history (Hate Hate Hate History and heard it's useless as far as college admission goes for most part) and I have a study hall for sure! What is so challenging about AP Chem besides the Exam?

Make sure you’ve got most of the basics of chemistry down. One of my friends is in AP Chem with me and she’s also a sophomore, and she has a very respectable grade. In my honest opinion, it isn’t too hard of a class to get lost in.

I am a sophomore in AP Chemistry but I took regular Chemistry last year. The teacher at my school expects everyone to have taken regualr already so he doesn’t really review things from last year that much. That part depends on the teacher. My class is about half sophomores and a lot of them probably have As, even the ones who took Biology last year. Plus your father can probably help you. The class is pretty easy in my opinion, at least compared to the AP exam. All we have to do is online homeowrk, labs, and of course study for tests, there isn’t really much homework. However, the tests are pretty hard so I have to study well.

I am sophomore in AP Chemistry and I had no previous chem experience and I have a 98 in the class for my semester grade. It has nothing to do with being a genius or having good science knowledge; it totally depends on the teacher, the teaching style, and how motivated you are to study and practice the chemistry skills you will need to get an A in the class. There are tons of people with an A in the class, a few B’s, and a handful of C’s. The ones with A’s are the ones who practice OUTSIDE of the classroom (that is key) and the teacher gives us a lot of worksheets and practice.

He is a great explainer and takes it upon himself to make sure we understand every little thing. Plus, there are many review books and websites out there to help in case the teacher doesn’t appease your learning.

If you do decide to take the class, message me and I will give you some more tips on how to succeed in it! Take it from me: yes, it’s a difficult, challenging, and self-driven course. You can’t go in there and not expect a lot of homework and some confusing content. But all that confusion and stress will ease as you learn the correct methods to study and it’s time-demanding, but with good time management, it will be one of the most successful and entertaining courses of your high school career.

I highly suggest it!

I’m a junior and took AP chemistry last year. It’s possible to learn everything from scratch and so yes, you can take it as a sophomore
