Ap Chem..if you took it

What was it like compated to chem honors? How bad was the math and did it really go as far as calc? Would you recomend it? How much studying did you do?

I got an A+ and i didn't do any studying.

How complicated was the math?

Not complicated at all. Certainly nothing like Calculus. Although the math was easy, learning all the theories and how they applied to "in the lab" situations was extremely hard if you didn't study.

this is going to depend on each school. An A+ isn't really meaningful because your school could be watered down. I got a 700 on SAT IIs for chemistry and my classmates did very well on the AP test. It is not hard math. The hardest math invovles basic logarithms. It is much more conceptual than AP physics, not nearly as much math. Sometimes chapters will be almost void of mathematical formulas, but just have relationships(temp vs. volume for instance). Its hard to say how it compares to honors, considering that depends on how much you covered in honors, however, if you faired well in honors you'll have a good base for this course.

i took ap chem at my school and it was def harder in my school than chem honors. Even though most kids got B's (i got a B+) and some A's everyone is prepared very well for the ap exam. Most kids like myself got 5's with some 4's and maybe 2 or 3 3's (out of 50 kids who took the exam last year). like benndaman said, letter grades don't really mean too much cause it varies from school to school.

it depends on the school... for some schools, ap chem is really easy and for others, its really hard

at my school. ap chem is one of the hardest classes that they offer, but the teacher really prepares you for the AP test

i would say the math is very basic in ap chem. you're not even allowed to use a calculator on the multiple choice part, i would say that about sums it up.

The first atom says to the second atom, "I think I lost an electron"
The second atom says, "are you sure?"
The first atom says,"Yes I'm Positive!"

It was very difficult because I had a horrible teacher. If you have a good teacher it shouldn't be bad. I personally think ap calculus is way easier than ap chem.

No No No No Not Chemistry Dear G-d Especially Not Ap U Crazies..........

AP Chem requires good knowledge of Algebra 2.

Period.

The exam was easily the hardest test I've taken in life, but I did manage to get a 5.

I took Honors Chem in 10th grade and AP Chem in 11th grade. In my school, AP Chem was considered to be the hardest class in the entire school. My teacher was...rather insane. He would assign like 2-3 hours of homework a night (sometimes more), but in the end it paid off...all but two people got a 5 on the AP and everyone who took the SAT II Chem got over a 750. So while we all complained during the class, in the end it really paid off.

I would say that the hardest part is just the concepts. The math isn't too bad, like there's no calculus per se or anything like that. It's just that most of the ideas behind the topics that the class covers are hard to grasp. Nevertheless, I think the class is definitely doable, and I would recommend it as a good experience and also a way to show colleges that you definitely challenged yourself in high school.

imo. im taking it right now. It is definately slight harder than chemistry honors. I really think it primarily depends on your teacher, the way she grades, and the way she teaches. If she really cares, she will unmercifully pound in every single kinetic and equilibrium problem into your head, but is she's like a fun teacher, than it might be a breeze. But, i have to warn you, my teacher is the first type and its as if she stuffed me in a rape-o-matic machine and my gpa's taking a hard hit

My teacher curved...and there was much rejoicing.

Anyone who took AP chem do a month long lab? ---Analysis of ions where you have to do all these procedures to determine what ions are present in your solution. In my opinion, that was the greatest part of the class.

fortune 4260. I did that lab. Only, i felt it was the worst part of the class. So boring. Differences of opinions i suppose

Lol...our teacher found a computer program for that lab written by Vernier Software, so it took us about half an hour instead of a month.

AP Chem is a waste of time.

I took AP Chem, & it was tough at our school. - Let me put it this way. A friend of mine was in my chem class up until Nov. (this was last year). She decided it was toot otugh and switched down to honors chem. In April she came up to me and told me that they were just starting to learn something new that she hadn't learned in the first 3 months of ap. That's just how fast it moves at our school. Although it was tought, I recommend it as I did learn a lot.
