Ap Chemistry..

anyone took or is taking ap chemistry without a preparation like honor chem or regular chem...?
cause i took chem in freshman year, and i dont rememeber anything..

no one?????????

i don't know about your school, but at mine, the ap chem classes goes through the basics. it does so pretty quickly, but the whole class goes very quickly. plus, when u get back into it, u'll be surprised how quickly it comes back

I'm taking AP Chem right now and I never took Honors Chem, so AP Chem is my first Chem course. There's really no problem. The material isin't too difficult.

I had honors chem, and thats wasnt really hard... so i mean i did take IB classes, so how hard can AP Chem be?....just study hard and youll do well, and gl

I took AP Chemistry but never took Honors Chemistry or any such thing. But then again, I took 2 years of Chemistry in Nigeria, and our curriculum was extremely challenging.

I took AP Chem as a sophmore without any prior chemistry experience. I absolutely loved it.

I'm surprised at how many people say their AP Chemistry classes are easy. Mine is practically murderous. I'm lucky to have escaped the first semester with an A-. I suppose it's just my teacher, but I can assuredly say that if I hadn't taken Honors (albeit over a year prior), I would have been totally lost in the first few months of the course.

Last year I took AP Chem with only some 9th grade preparation in stoichiometry (about a month). I got a 5.

Depends on the teacher, really, but Chemistry wasn't too hard for me. The only hard parts were the ones my teacher didn't understand.

I have a IB Physics, its not that hard at all.... i mean i am senior its february already, so at this point i dont really care and i just fly by.....as amlariul said its all about the teacher... to reply to 6570882, just work hard and it will be easy

I am currently in AP Chem as a junior, took Pre-AP Chem as a sophomore, and I am doing really well (96 A) as of right now. However, during our study of AP reactions, my grade dropped drastically and cut my chances on attending several elite schools. If I had worked harder, my grade would not have dropped. Ah, welll, such is life.

However, it is considered a very rigorous course, and is not easy unless you work your a** off and already are good in chemistry. It depends on who teaches it and how hard you work.

my school's prerequisties and expectations of ap chem
-ability and discipline to handle the work required of a college leve class
-strong stidy skills and motivation
-completion of honor chem whit a grade b or better(but teacher said regular chem is ok too)
-completion of algebra2 with a grade of b or better
-weekly quizzes
-read up to 2chapters per week
-complete homework packets with 20-30 practice problems
-college-leve laboratory experiences
-willingness to participate in after school study sessions

how is it sounds??

That sounds like my AP chem class;
weekly quizes/tests, 1~2 chapters every week, but middle-school level lab experience (-_- I always thought they were very childish experiments).

chem hardly requires any mathematical skills; apt skills in algebra II will help though. Although you do learn about some advanced functions (well, logarithms at least), they're simple plug-in questions and the formulas are all provided in a sheet they give u for the AP exam.

you'll enjoy it :) AP chem definately is one of the more interesting AP classes you'll take.

thank you for all the comments!!
i m gonna take ap chem next year...i m very excited

how about biology?
did you guys take honor or regular biology before ap biology??

For bio, I took Honors 1 year before self studying the AP and 2 years before taking the course (haha). It was/is easy.

For chem, I skipped it over the summer by taking a 30-day course 1 year before taking the AP class. It's pretty easy.

any other people??

bump it if you wanna knwo more............bumppppppppppppppp

i m thinking about taking ap statistic,pre-calc,ap chem or ap chem, ap bio,pre-calc next year
cause i need to increase my gpa as much as possible

I think i kinda got screwed over in my AP chem. A few weeks into the year, my chem teacher's appendix burst and she was out for 6 weeks. For some reason the school couldn't find a competent sub so those 6 weeks were wasted doing absolutely nothing. In the end, i think there was one 5 and five 4s... pretty dismal, but oh well I got an A =)

EDIT: oh right i forgot about the topic. My teacher gave us a self-teaching packet covering basic chem over the summer before the class. Other than that, we weren't really expected to remember anything from before.
