Next year I will be a senior, and I'm also currently in the IB program. I have room on my schedule for one more class and I was wondering if I should take AP Chemistry to help me get a better understanding of Chem and try to raise my GPA or should I just take an off period?!

AP CHEM! AP CHEM!

If and only if you’re willing to put in the added effort, of course.

@Niquii77

LOL X) I most likely will. Are there any books out there that will help me…? Like ones that I could use and practice with over the summer?

AP Chem isn’t that hard, I’m taking it right now as a sophmore

I want to go to ND too ^_^

@Masterball

Yeah, I took PreAP Chem last year and made a B in it. I didn’t really have a good understanding of it and I wish j did. Now that I have an opportunity, I want to see if I can do better the 2nd time.

I’d take AP Chem. I’m honestly not the biggest fan of off periods, which has mainly to do with the outrageous class requirements for graduation (12+ full year ECs)… But that’s just me.

I think AP Chem is going to benefit you more in the long run, but if you’re struggling at school already, I’d take the off.

If you’re already taking IB Chem, you don’t really need AP Chem.

I’m in IB Physics…

I’m also doing the diploma program so my whole schedule is full of IB classes where as the certificate, you pick and chose which IB classes you want…like AP. I’m just trying to challenge myself

Yeah, I think AP Chem would be useful then. If you want to be a chemical engineer, for example, IB Physics and AP Chem would be a good combination.

AP chem is a great class, though I’d caution you if you don’t have an innate understanding of chemistry. At my school, there are really just people who get it and people who don’t, with only one very hard working fellow in between. Since you say you want to raise your GPA, evaluate your past performance and the performance of your friends to judge chem’s difficulty at your school.

Thanks you guys!
