AP Chem Vs AP Stats

My daughter has the following classes for Junior year.

Ø AP English

Ø AP Physics 1

Ø Math Analysis

Ø Spanish III Honors

Ø AP US History

Ø 3rd period still open and considering options such as AP Statistics or Digital Photography or free period

Are the above classes rigorous enough?

Her counselor has agreed for Meghna to sign up for AP Chem (Ist period) , if she ends up with at least a C on Algebra II semester one, that she taking now over summer.

Daughter is very reluctant to do AP Chem as she struggled with CP Chem last year ( she just managed to get a C)and also she seems to be a little a intimidated by the teacher. It is the same teacher that taught CP Chem last year She is not comfortable with his teaching style and very stringent grading . She is serious about pursuing combined BS/MD program and AP chem will help her quite a bit and we are hopeful with some extra help from tutoring she can pull it through. . At the same time we don’t want to push her and set her up for failure. Any thoughts?

4 AP’s as a junior may be pushing it; only you and your daughter know for sure. AP English and APUSH can be a boatload of work depending on the teacher.

The other thing to keep in mind is that many med schools will not accept AP credits as part of the pre-med requirements, meaning your daughter will have to either retake gen chem in college, or take 2 semesters of chem post-organic.

AP Statistics (very easy) or Digital Photography may be the way to go.

AP chem is very different from AP stat. One depend on memorrization and remember concepts while the other one requires calculating skill(Not a lot though). I am still not sure what CP is but getting a C in it and then doing AP chem is a very very bad choice. In most of other classes, most of the stuff are written in English but in AP chem, you know your chem reactions and formulas inside and out or you might as well be blind.

I am not sure what level of Math Analysis your daughter is doing but AP stats seem like a better choice for her. If she prefer science AP course, she can try AP biology which is all memorization with a few taints of chemistry.

Thank you ski Europe and long for your inputs
