I am a sophomore and over the next two weeks I have to pick my classes for next year. I know most of what I want to take, but cannot decide between AP Chem and a business course. I am not sure yet, but I will most likely want to study business in college, so I feel like colleges will find it strange if I have not taken many business classes in high school. However, the decision will also affect my average (APs are weighted 10% at my school). I really want to finish as high in my class as I can, and I think that having a 97-100 in a business class as opposed to a 103-108 in chem could make a pretty big difference in my average and class rank. Which do colleges value more highly: my average and taking challenging classes, or me taking classes that reflect my interests? Please also consider that the class rank thing is a personal goal, and I am more focused on that than taking classes that I might enjoy slightly more. What do you think I should take?

Taking challenging classes and gettng higher grades are more important. Many colleges don’t even consider intended major in their admission decisions.

That’s correct.
