Hello. Next year i will be a junior in High School in ap chemistry. I currently have a 97 in honors chem, but at my school ap is a nightmare regardless of how well you do in honors. Any advice as to how to appropriately prepare for ap chemistry over the summer? THanks
I would look over the first few chapters of your textbook (if given during the summer) or buy a review book and look over that. You could also look at CollegeBoard’s course description for it to know what topics you’ll be covering. Maybe try a practice exam to see where you currently are in AP-level material, but don’t get discouraged if you score very poorly a first! AP Chem is a very challenging class and will require lots of hard work, so just be sure to study hard, manage your time, and stay organized throughout the year. Good luck.
The trick to AP chem is getting a solid foundation in the basics - bonding theories, polarity, etc. It’s amazing how many questions you can answer just by understanding EN/polarity. Chemistry doesn’t come easy but once you get it, you get it. You’re obviously understanding honors well enough. Don’t stress over summer preparation. If you must, pay a visit to youtube or KahnAcademy. Chemistry is very visual, while also being computational. Watch some videos and just try to understand the 3D structures (VESPR!). If you’re reading a book and just not seeing it, STOP and go watch a video about it. Good luck!
