***AP Chemistry (2016-2017)***

I think buffers was commonly covered in class because it is a big chunk of BI6 but honestly, I don’t remember seeing chromatography really. I pulled a 0/4 on it.

There has been conversations about whether the Ecell for the two reactions are both positive or not.

And yes, the galvanic cell is supposed to have positve Ecell to have spontaneous reaction.

However, as I remember, I think there were specific two reactions given to us which tell us what are oxidiging agent and reducing agent. By that, we can tell the correct directions of each half cells and even the corret signs of the E value. By finding each E value of the half cells in each reaction and adding them all up, we can have the Ecell value.

I think the second one should be negative since the direction of each half cell in second equation will lead you to have negative E value by summing them up. Hope this helps guys.

@bhargavaa Yes NaOH and HCl of equal molarity and amount would be 7. Salt and Water would be created but the pH would be neutral.

@yunfeiiiiii No hydrogen bonding present. It’s pure HCl

I see all the ecell FRQ questions and I really want to help… except I didn’t get to that question and didn’t even answer because I was fricken writing paragraphs for each questions.

Does anyone know exactly when the free response answers will be up?

Others have said after the results come out

That’s what I’ve been saying!!

When will the FRQs be released though?

Today. The CB does not commit to an exact time.

Anyone else nervous? The free responses are released today.

If it is released, do we just go to the college board website to look at it? It ll be there right?

I am SOOOOOO nervous

@whataday201 did the question say which one was the oxiduzing agent? i just remember that it gave the two reactants so i assumed the one with the more positive E value was reduces (since it has a higher reduction potential)

Should be on college board @ShrutiSapphire . I don’t think it’s up yet.

Yes. If you follow Trevor Packer on Twitter, he generally tweets right after they’ve been released.

The anticipation is killing me

So, just some clarification on a few things that I’ve seen asked about on here

  1. You will NEVER be told what the cut lines are for the “O” version of the test. Each version get’s it’s own cut lines, and those cut lines vary from year to year. Determining those cut lines is the purpose of the 10 “field” questions in the MC exam.

  2. The MC section ALWAYS has 60 questions, it’s just that only 50 of them count. For those of you complaining that you weren’t prepared for this, blame your teacher for giving you 90 minutes for 50 questions instead of just 75. My students have a little under 1.5 minutes/MC question on EVERY test they take all year, so the AP Exam actually seems like extra time to them.

  3. There should be NO discussion of the questions at all on here yet, so please stop. “O” version FRQ questions can be discussed after they are released (probably this afternooon), while any other FRQ and all MC questions can never be discussed.

  4. My advice to you all at this point is to just move on and accept what you got. There isn’t anything that you can do about it now, nor is there anything you can do to change it. I’m sure you all worked hard in preparation, but it’s not worth stressing the next two months (until scores are released) about.

@APChemTeacher Thank you for the clarifications! As a follow-up, I believe in an earlier post you mentioned that “All 60 “count”, but the score gets scaled back out of 50 based on the % right”; I’m still quite confused about the field questions- does that mean those extra 10 questions are graded, or no?

Yeah AP Chem teacher, thanks for the clarification.
