***AP Chemistry (2016-2017)***

Closed out the quarter with an A :slight_smile:

Thermochem test on Tuesday…a weak point for me so I’m nervous.

Are any of yall’s teachers celebrating Mole Day? We have to make a shirt and do a Secret Santa like mole bag for someone in our class. We’re all bringing mole related food too. And, I’m in chem club and we’re meeting at Einstein Bros Bagels at 6:02 am before school :slight_smile:

Oh boy, we’re starting periodic trends and electron configurations. Literally my least favorite part of chem last year :frowning:

@Shanban1607 I just finished those topics and it was pure hell! We had to explain all of the periodic trends through shielding and atomic radius. We also had to explain the periodic exceptions. I got a 63% on that assessment, the lowest grade I gotten so far in this class. Good Luck to You, though. I’d definitely recommend getting a prep book and practicing the problems from there.

@ak2018 Thanks! :smiley:

@Shanban1607 You’re welcome!

So I got a 72% on my Metathesis Quiz because I didn’t read the directions. If I had, I would’ve seen that the directions said that all of the reactions are aqueous.

Luckily, our teacher will be doing a quiz-grade bump with our upcoming Big Idea 1 Test. If we had a bad grade on any of the quizzes this quarter, excluding the Metathesis quiz, and get a better score on the certain section of the test, then our quiz grades will be bumped up to whatever the grade of the test section is.

Finished quarter one with a 96% :expressionless: It could be worse but could be better too, also starting thermodynamics now, one of my favorites

@Tobster18 I would be ecstatic if I got a 96%. Hell I’d be ecstatic just to get an A.

@Tobster18 I HATE thermochem. I’ve gotten all high As on all of my tests in the class but I got a 60% on thermochem! Luckily, my teacher does retests, but we only have one and the highest we can get is an 85%. I’m really nervous.

I had posted this over in last year’s thread by accident, but I picked up this eBook and the stoichiometry guide was super helpful: https://www.albert.io/blog/ap-chemistry-tour/

My teacher moved our next test from today to Monday! Now I have the whole weekend to study! :))

My test scores for the 4 tests we have taken are 81, 87, 78, and 67 so disappointed in myself and now we are doing thermodynamics

I’m thinking of getting the 5 steps to a 5 or the Princeton review book; will a 2015 or 2016 one suffice? Or should I just spend the extra $12 on a 2017 one?

@minty0 I got the crash course and Princeton review books. I got the 2016 (I believe) Princeton review book, cause as far as I know there haven’t been any changes to the exam this year.

@Shanban1607
@minty0
The Princeton review 2016 is not good. The book has many mistakes. Last year, many people bought the 2015 because of this.

@Shanban1607 @ZealousScholar So the 2015 editions should be fine for practicing for the 2017 exam?

I’m a sophomore in AP Chem, never took a regular chemistry course in my life. I have had a low A throughout these first months, so far so good! What saved me the most are vids and good lab partners. The internet is amazing, use it to your advantage to learn at your own pace. Good lab partners are KEY to keeping that lab report grade up. Doing your hw helps to aha.

@KSanders24 Agreed, my AP Chem class is really fun! 2 labs today!

Aha I honestly thought this class would be pure torture, but I actually enjoy the class! Though it pains me sometimes to see my fellow sophs doing covalent bonding, when we’re on periodicity!

Big Idea 2 test Friday. Does anyone have any practice tests or anything to help me prepare?
