AP Chemistry and Algebra 2

Will I be okay if I take algebra 2 and ap chemistry at the same time? I'm really good at math and my chemistry teacher is fantastic. I already took chemistry last year as a sophomore. I heard the only algebra 2 on there is logs anyway..? My teacher thinks I will be fine since I aced basic chemistry. Thanks :) just wanted other peoples opinions.

You should be fine. Logs, quadratic equations, and exponents are the only algebra topics you must know beyond very basic stuff. Knowing calculus will help in following derivations, especially for reactions rates and thermodynamics, but it is not necessary. The math is not what makes ap chemistry hard.

AP Chemistry has little of Algebra II topics, like logs, the quadratic equation and exponent properties. In my course book, Algebra II is one of the prerequisites for AP Chemistry. By taking them together might actually help you a lot. I’m taking AP Chemistry this fall too and the AP Chemistry teacher said to me that the math shouldn’t be trouble for any student, it’ll be the actual AP Chemistry material. Good Luck.

No problem at all. I took AP Chem as a sophomore concurrently with Hon Alg 2 and I was fine. The math you do in AP Chem that comes from Algebra 2 is mostly centered in 2-3 units (Acids and Bases and Thermodynamics, from what I remember), but even then it was only logs (and a bit of graph analysis with logs in electrochemistry) which my Alg 2 class had covered by the time we got there.

Alright! Thank you so much!!!
