I’m taking AP chemistry this year as a junior, and haven’t taken chemistry before. I’ve skipped classes like this before and have already taken calculus and am prepared for the insane workload. I have some free time over the summer and was wondering what chem topics I should familiarize myself with so that I’m not too far behind. Thanks!
I was in your situation, although I did know some basic chem from having taken AP Biology. It’s really not a big deal, you should be fine.
As for summer work, you should learn “introductory chemistry.” I’m sure your class textbook has some “what is chemistry?” chapter that covers basic stuff like sig figs, accuracy versus precision, etc. and a chapter on atoms / molecules / ions. You should also learn stoichiometry. Finally, it would be incredibly helpful to memorize the names and naming conventions of various monoatomic and polyatomic ions.
