AP Chemistry will be my first AP class next year as a junior. Is this class easy or hard? I got a B+ in the 1st part and A- in the 2nd part although I did slack off a lot when I shouldn't have. I'm already studying flashcards and taking notes that the teacher provided for me because summer work is 10% of our grade. I would like feedback on what I should expect on my 1st AP class.

It is very difficult, but it all depends on your teacher. Everything you learn in regular Chem is very different from AP Chem. You learn Solution Stoichiometry, Equilibrium, Molarity, etc… AP Chem was also my first AP class my sophomore year. I obtained an A because my teacher was super easy. Though, the material we learned was Pre-Cal and Calculus level.

^ You guys didn’t do molarity in regular chem? Wow. I did stuff on precal level in my advanced chem class sophomore year. I’m taking IB Chem but self-studying for the AP Exam my junior year.

I did molarity in reg chem but we never really got into it in depth. It was mainly stoichimetry, chemical reactions, physical reactions, balancing equations, orbital things, etc. I don’t really remember all of it, it was 2 years ago.

Wow. Solution Stoich. We got so in depth too until we had the stupid state tests that asked stupid stuff and had me mess up.

All I did in AP Chem was worksheets every single day. Some kids didn’t even do that and pulled out a C. AP Chem is like a joke in my school and they’re not even offering it at my school anymore because last year there were only 6 people in the class and none of them even took the AP Exam so all they did was play cards. Man I’d like to get an A in an AP class and all I did was play cards haha.

I’m taking AP Chemistry next year. I have to read 3 chapters of my book over the summer, take notes, and finish a 16 page review packet. Yay!!!

What book are you guys using? We are using “Chemistry The Central Science”

I’m thinking of using Barrons or P-Review for preparing for the AP test

Zumdahl Chemistry. For IB Chem review.

I don’t remember the one we used. I think it was like a white boring book that said Chemistry Advanced Placement or something random. We rarely used it, all he did was teach us through the board and hand us 5 worksheets and said they were due in 2 days.

We’re using the Zumdahl textbook also. For our summer work we have to do assignments on WebAssign but it’s only avaliable after July 5th. Stupid chemistry teachers I WANT TO DO CHEMISTRY NOW!

I’m taking it too! I have to read through the first eight chapters for homework over the summer. And my class is using Chemistry, the Central Science, Revised 8th Edition as our textbook. My teacher is having us all use Princeton Review for our review book.

Haha. Playing cards all day sounds fun.

I didn’t find AP Chemistry to be difficult at all, but chemistry is one of my best subjects. The parts of AP Chem that I didn’t like were things like buffers which were tedious to solve. Overall I liked the class though.

Yeah, but when I took it we didn’t play cards because 7/11 of us were taking the exam. Yup, well all got 1’s and 2’s. Haha.

AP Chemistry is, supposedly, the hardest AP class at our school… but for the scientifically inclined, it’s not too bad.
You guys use books for AP Chem? We don’t at our school…not even review books. The weekend before the test our class just went over to the teacher’s house for pizza and an intense 6 hr review session haha.

^We did that for APUSH and AP Biology. For APUSH it was after school in her classroom from 3:30-6:30 and we ate pizza. Then for AP Biology it was on a Sunday (before the test on Monday) from 10 am-1 pm and we had donuts and prepped.

^ Yeah I prefer that method of review… although I can’t say it’s the most effective way of studying.

I didn’t get any homework all year long except I did study about one hour each nine-weeks and made 98, 97, 98, 99. It all depends on your teacher. But I felt it was a fun class!

We used Zumdahl at our school. I actually didn’t get a review book, our teacher gave us 5 or so practice AP tests though the weeks before though.
