Hey guys!
In two week I'm gonna be a sophomore and I'm wondering what AP classes I should take. My school doesn't offer any AP classes to sophomores so I'm going to have to self study. I wanna be a doctor in the future so I know I will have to work very hard and I'm willing and determined to self study. I know medical school won't look at what I did in HS but I want to get into a good college after HS.

Theres are my previous and future classes for High School.

Freshman (last year):
Geometry Honors
Physics Honors
World History 1 Honors
Frsh English Honors
Spanish 1 Honors

Sophomore (this year):

Chemistry Honors
World History 2 Honors
Soph English Honors
Spanish 2 Advanced

Junior:

Science: Okay so at my school, you can't take any AP science course without first completing the 3 courses which mean you can only take one senior year. I don't think I will be able to take two AP scince courses senior year so would it be a good idea to self study AP chemistry junior year? I'm also planning on taking the SAT Chem subject test this year. Also do you think I should self study for AP Physics B this year?

Math: Would I be able to self AP Statistics next year or is it too hard? My dad used to teach it at college so he would be able to help me. Also I can't take AP calc BC with my school because I'm not in advanced math but would I be able to self study for it Senior year while taking Ap Calc AB?

English: My school doesn't offer any AP english classes but would I be able to self study AP Lang & Composition and AP Lit & Composition and if so, when should I?

History: I know history isn't really important but I think it would look good if I took any. Is it a good idea to take APUSH junior year? How hard is it? And since I might just be taking 1 AP this year, should I take AP Human Geography or AP Psychology (I heard they were both really easy)

Spanish: In my school you only have to take two years of a language so do you think I should do more?

Electie: I alrady have my electives planned out so don't tell me I need to take some.

As I said earlier I'm very determined and willing to put in the extra work into my education.

Self-studying AP’s is entirely possible, but if you want 5s, then taking the hard sciences/math would not be a great idea. APs to self study are usually the “softer” ones; stats, psychology, econ, human geo, etc. I would recommend doubling up on AP sciences senior year, and maybe self-studying AP stats instead, or something like that.

I took AP Chemistry in my junior year and I would cringe if I had to self-study THAT – not impossible if you’re seriously motivated. Most people take a first-year chemistry course before they attack AP Chem. I suggest self-studying for AP Bio your junior year instead since Honors biology is not a prerequisite for the course and could complement it well! As for AP Physics B…it’s intended to be an in-depth two-year course so I don’t think you could be that successful if you decide to take the exam with only one year of self-studying. Also, starting for the 2014-2015 it won’t be offered anymore – it’ll only be AP Physics 1 and 2 – which means the upcoming May is the last time the exam would be offered and that would not give you enough time if you started studying now.

AP Language & Composition is usually for juniors. I suggest self-studying that during your junior year as the American Literature course can be a foundation for it. As long as you’re strong in essay organization, have decent critical reading skills, and you like to read, you should be fine. I scored a 4 – all I did was study rhetorical modes and the likes from the Princeton Review book AND I only finished 2 out of the 3 essays – Weird. AP Literature should be for senior year.

History is too important. Pfft. APUSH is very specific-based on details ranging from the colonial period to present day so it requires a lot of memorization. That course will be very writing-intensive as well.

Take AP Psychology. I think Human Geography is a waste of time and colleges don’t care much for it (what credits could they even give you for it besides elective credits?).

I took 2 years of Spanish and most colleges think that is sufficient enough or they recommend a third year of a foreign language. However, more selective schools will REQUIRE 3 years. You could save yourself money this way, y’know. If you take 4 years of a language, you could take a CLEP exam for qualification so that you would not have to take a language in college should your major require it.

Oh yeah, as for the calc question: It would be like studying for algebra 2 when you haven’t even finished algebra 1 yet.

As for my personal opinion, AP Chem is rather difficult to self-study, APUSH is fine it’s just memorization, AP Stats should be fine as well, AP Lit I would say no unless you’re a very talented and dedicated writer.
