I am currently a sophomore in high school. I got in to AP United States history, and AP Russian. However I also got into AP English, but I am not offered any science classes at all because I already took Physics as a sophomore. I want an AP Science class on my transcript. But with the AP Science class I would only get AP Environmental Science, is it worth getting regular honors English and Ap environmental, or should I have taken AP English with no science class. I want to aim for the more selective colleges.
Your school will send a profile with your application that outlines its rules for APs, etc. Selective colleges want to see you taking the most rigorous courses available. APES and AP English are broadly seen as similarly challenging. If you want to take APES b/c it is interesting to you and/or fits with your interests- do it. if not, don’t worry about it. It won’t be the deciding factor in whether you get into your desired colleges.
Stick with the AP English and skip out on the science. Unless AP Environmental fits in with your interests, major, or career prospect. As long as you will be able to have biology, chemistry, and physics on your transcript at SOME point in your high school career, you’re good.
