AP Credit for classes besides sciences and math?

The HMC website says that you can't place out of math and science classes with AP credit, but it doesn't mention anything about AP English or history credits. Does this mean that my scores on those exams don't do anything for HMC, or is there other information I'm missing?

Also, is there any point I don't know about to taking any AP exams this year if I won't get credit for them at HMC? I was accepted ED, so I know I won't end up at a different school that does take AP scores.

You don’t get any credit for any classes with the AP scores.
Contrary to what you said AP scores will be used for placement and only for placement.
Most math/science classes will have a placement test and probably won’t look at your AP scores.
But, I do remember writing it down for physics placement. And you can also place out statistics with AP. That’s pretty much it I think.
You can place out of non-math/science classes with APs too.

You can’t place out of freshmen writing with AP english scores

A 5 on the Calc BC used to get you out of the first 5-week math class. Not with credit, just with placement into the next class. Hardly worth it, according to most Mudders who talked to my son. I think that Physics placement might be a bit more significant, but I’m not sure I’d go there given their reported plans to accelerate the Physics core.

Unless it would be hardship to pay for them, I would suggest taking the AP tests anyway. None of us ever knows 100% what the future holds; every year we read stories on CC about students who moved home for any number of reasons including family illness, financial change, or unexpected academic issues. If you had to move home or transfer out for some reason, it might be helpful to have those AP scores for credit at another institution.

ps. calc BC doesn’t get you out of math now.

and yes, i also agree with finishing strong (mostly cuz i regret not having done so)

Is it worth placing out of stats with AP credit? In what year do you take stats at HMC?

My freshman daughter is taking stats this semester. She took the AP test her Jr year of high school and received a 5, but decided to just take the course at HMC again because it had been so long. There was a placement test too which she took, and she felt like she had forgotten too much (although I don’t think the dept ever got back to her with the results!) I don’t know about other statistics classes one might or not have to take with their major.
