I am planning to enrol at JHU this year and I am confused about the AP credits and the subsequent lowering of cost that I will be able to get. I am an international student and I am giving AP exams this year (self studying) only to reduce the cost and time period required for me to graduate.

I am planning to major in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering with a minor in environmental Science. I am taking the following AP Exams-
Calculus BC
Chemistry
Physics C
Environmental Science

The following link gives JHU's AP Credit Policy Info
Credit for Work Done Elsewhere

Referring to this link plz help me understand how much credit will I get at JHU. How much cost will I be able to reduce and how early will I be able to graduate? Thanks.

Let’s assume you get credit for everything. Then it looks like you would get 26 credits. As for how much that will reduce your cost and how early you can graduate, it completely depends. I came in with 26 credits as well, but I’m staying here the full four years so that I can get a BA/MA and write a senior thesis. I have a friend who came here with something like 44 credits and he’s staying the full four years so he can get a combined BA/MA, though he strongly considered graduating early. If your hope is to just come here and go through as fast as you can, which I would strongly advise against, then you’ll probably save a full year’s tuition plus housing/food/books. Getting those credits lets you place out of the intro courses so you can skip to the intermediate courses and finish your requirements earlier. However, many people use this opportunity to take more electives outside their department, or graduate courses within their department.

Hope that helps.

^thanks, that was a very helpful post.
But how do my AP’s make 26 credits. According to the table in the link I provided
Chemistry(6)+Cal BC(8)+Environ Sci(4)+Physics C Mechanics(4) = 22 credits or am I missing something?

Also, I was wondering why do u think graduating early isn’t a good move?

I assumed you were taking Mechanics and E&M, which would give you another 4.
