AP Credit

I was doing some research on the northeastern website and I was wondering whether a pharmD student could be exempt from their general chemistry and biology classes if they got at least a 4 on their AP tests (for chemistry and biology). I'm pretty sure they can but I still have some doubt. Also, if I could get exempt from those classes, can I take the sophomore year course? (organic chemistry)

Here is a link to the sample curriculum: <a href="http://www.northeastern.edu/admissions/pdfs/credit/APCredit22510.pdf%5B/url%5D">http://www.northeastern.edu/admissions/pdfs/credit/APCredit22510.pdf</a></p>

Here is the link on how northeastern accepts AP credit: <a href="http://www.northeastern.edu/bouve/undergrad/pdf/PharmD_12_13.pdf%5B/url%5D">http://www.northeastern.edu/bouve/undergrad/pdf/PharmD_12_13.pdf</a></p>

Yup, they accept Bio and Chem AP credits (and most other credits) if you get a 4 or 5, but they encourage students to at least take the second semester of General Chem at NU to prepare for organic chemistry in year 2. I’m not taking my AP Chemistry exam because I do not like the idea of skipping chemistry for a year and then diving into Organic Chem. I feel like I’ll forget a lot. I will AP out of Bio, though, if I attend. If you do decide to skip out of bio or chem, I think you take electives in its place and have the potential to minor in something if you have enough AP credits. You will still have to take organic chemistry in year 2. I don’t think it’s possible to graduate early in the pharmD program.

Taking your AP Chem test might still be worth it because you’ll have more transfer credits and be able to register for classes earlier and whatnot. I don’t think NU will force you into skipping a year of chem.

thanks! yeah, my dad was worried about skipping a whole year of general chemistry and jumping right into organic chemistry if they won’t let me take organic chemistry my freshman year. i don’t plan on graduating early from the pharmd program (and plus it’s not possible) but they definitely won’t let me take organic chemistry my freshman year?

You get to register for classes earlier? I just didn’t sign up to take it because I didn’t want to waste the money. I hope I don’t regret it.

@missyrinda- I’m pretty sure you can’t take organic chem freshman year. But I would email them. The Bouve advisor seems to be very informative- s.olia@neu.edu

You can’t sign up for classes earlier your first semester, because your advisor does it for you. But later on you register for courses based on the number of credits you have (in ranges) and then by your NUID number.

I’m a junior in high school and I just had some questions about the PharmD curriculum…
Does Northeastern accepts community college credits?
I took Psychology (I think it was 5 credits?) at my local community college and received an A.
If NEU does take the Psychology course credit, would it exempt me from “Foundations of Psychology” or is it elective credit?
Oh and for “College Writing”, does AP English Lang. or AP English Lit. (assuming that I get a 4 or 5) exempt me from the class? If one of them does, is the other elective credit?
OR is the course totally different and is mandatory?
Thanks in advance! :D
