Can you apply AP credits to satisfy AXLE requirements?

Also, how can I be sure that a course I am taking meets one of the AXLE requirements? Is there a code on the course that I just missed when I read all of this information?

I am still a little unsure about how AXLE works even after reading the booklet Vandy sent us.

No, you CANNOT apply AP credits to AXLE requirements.

You need to look at the listing of courses in the AXLE catalog. Every AXLE area lists the classes that fulfill AXLE requirements. Here is the link: [Vanderbilt University: College of Arts and Science: Academics: AXLE](http://www.vanderbilt.edu/cas/academics/axle/distribution_courses.php)

^Yep, kelsmom got it all. lol.

Basically there are 6 different categories. In each category you need to take a given amount of classes. There is a list of classes for each category.

There is also a writing requirement! So don’t forget this. Also, for the science category, one of the classes is required to be a lab!!! A lot of people put this off. I am an econ major and got the lab requirement out of the way, and I am glad I did because a lot of my friends are mad they have to take it their junior/senoir year. I took Biology Today with Due-Goodwin- Highly recommended!!!

Why does College Board release the AP scores so late in the summer that almost all entering freshmen at many colleges cannot know their scores prior to registration? D is waiting on AP Calculus AB, AP Biology, AP Latin,AP European History and AP English Lit. She has decided to NOT register for any math classes until she knows her Calculus score. She would rather wait and hope to get the AP math credits and just get her AXLE math and science credits fulfilled with other classes.

well the why is because they take so long to grade (i know because almost all of my teachers grade ap exams over the summer). i agree though it is a flawed system. the only thing i would say about waiting to take math is that calculus might be hard to pick up again if she doesnt do it over the summer and then first semester at vandy. just a thought. it also depends on how comfortable she is with calc though.

Well, for what they charge for an AP exam, College Board can certainly design an exam and grading system to make scores available earlier. It’s also disconcerting and very surprising that they outsource grading and don’t do it in house.
She is more than willing to see what her AP Calculus grade is since if she has at least a 4 or a 5, she won’t want to take Calculus as she will lose the credit. That’s a waste of an AP course.

she sounds like she is on the same page as me. i am signed up to take math 175 and use my ap credit from calc bc for calculus at vandy. however i want to be a math major so if she is just waiting to see if she has to take calculus or not then i understand why you would wait for the ap score to come in. you might also keep in mind that she meets with an advisor when she gets to vandy in the fall and can change her schedule then (she also would have her ap scores) but i dont know how hard that is to do since this will be my first year. tell her good luck!

sign up for a class assuming you got a 4/5, you can change it later if needed

a lot of kids end up retaking calc and start with 150/155… just to let everyone know

thats true, i took bc my junior year and have credit for calc 1 and maybe 2, but i’m just using my ap credit to get credit for calc 1 and thus skipping math 150a for 150b (calc 2). after one year of stat i’m definitely not going right into multivar haha
