So far it seems that I've read that AP credits are only used for class placement at Vanderbilt, but they will not satisfy the AXLE core requirements. In this case, AP credits seem really pointless since the classes you can place out of are limited. Basically, I just wanted to verify that this is true and see if there is any other use for the AP credits. Also, I read that about one-third of the credits neccesary for graduation come from electives, so I was wondering if the elective requirements could be satisfied with AP credits. Thanks.

First, this only applies to A&S; AP credits can satisfy any requirement in Peabody or Engineering.

So your AP credits can count toward your major. If you’re an Econ major for example, you could place out of Macro and Micro and Calculus and such. AP credits cannot count towards your liberal arts core (AXLE), as that would kinda elliminate the point of a liberal arts core, as well as make it way too easy to graduate because A&S majors don’t require very many hours.

If you have AP credits that can’t be used for your major, they just count as generic “credit hours” (up to 18 hours). While these don’t give credit for any specific course, they count towards the total number of hours required in order to graduate (120 hrs). So I suppose you could say that AP credit reduces the number of “electives” you have to take after completing all your major/AXLE requirements.

So, at the very least, if none of your AP credits count towards your major, you can reduce required credit hours for graduation from 120 to 102.

Awesome. I had guessed that that was the case, but I was not for sure. Thank you very much for your assistance.
