AP Credits and labs

Ok I know this is one of those questions I should wait to ask if and when it applies but I'm curious.

PHYS 2514 may be a required course for my D. I see from OU's AP credit chart that she can get credit for this class if makes a 4 on the AP Physics C Mechanical test. What happens to the required associated lab, PHYS 1311? Does one just take the lab without the class or is credit given for the lab as well?Is the requirement for the lab drop and no credit given? I never took a lab class myself so I'm not sure how this works. Would it be odd to take the lab and not the class?

Your daughter would test out of both the lab and the class. It is possible to take the lab a different semester than the lecture if the lab and lecture have separate course numbers. It’s not ideal, as the lab generally mimics the concepts being covered in lecture at the same time.

Thanks! That’s good to know an added incentive for her to do well on those AP tests:-)

My daughter has credit for Chem 1315, 1415 from IB testing. She’s not going in to a STEM field so it is my understanding that will take care of her science with a lab general requirement.
